Aveson Stands Against Book Bans
Share
At Aveson, we believe books are bridges - connecting readers to new ideas, voices, and perspectives. That’s why we stand firmly against book bans.
Book banning isn’t just about removing titles from shelves. It’s about silencing stories, erasing identities, and limiting the freedom to think critically. When books are banned, students lose access to literature that reflects their lives, challenges their assumptions, and expands their understanding of the world.
According to PEN America, over 3,000 book bans were recorded in U.S. public schools during the 2022–2023 school year alone. The majority of these targeted books by or about LGBTQ+ individuals and people of color. These bans disproportionately affect marginalized communities and send a dangerous message: that some stories are too controversial to be heard.
We reject that notion.
Aveson was founded on the belief that literacy is a right, not a privilege. Every book we sell helps fund school libraries and plant trees - but it also affirms our commitment to intellectual freedom. Our Banned Books collection celebrates the titles that have been challenged, censored, or removed - books that dared to speak truth, ask hard questions, or simply exist.
We encourage readers to explore these stories, share them, and stand up for the freedom to read. Because when we ban books, we ban empathy, curiosity, and progress.
Let’s keep the shelves open - and the conversations going.
