1975 is a time of change in America. The Vietnam War is ending. Muhammad Ali is fighting Joe Frazier. And in the smalltown of Monta Clare, Missouri, girls are disappearing.
When the daughter of a wealthy family is targeted, the most unlikely hero emerges--Patch, a local boy, who saves the girl, and, in doing so, leaves heartache in his wake.
Patch and those who love him soon discover that the line between triumph and tragedy has never been finer. And that their search for answers will lead them to truths that could mean losing one another.
A missing person mystery, a serial killer thriller, a love story, a unique twist on each, Chris Whitaker has written a novel about what lurks in the shadows of obsession and the blinding light of hope.

This is one of the most beautifully written books I've ever had the pleasure of devouring. I couldn't put it down, yet hated to come to the end.
What a story!! Great characters, memorably developed. There's a lull in the middle, but stay the course because the ramp up to the finish is excellent.
At some point early in the story wondered how this book would keep me interested for almost 600 pages but it was such a good epic tale with adventure, horror, mystery and great characters that it was difficult to put down.
Absolutely my #1 favorite book. I have read countless numbers of books but this one is THE ONE. I read a review of it before I started it and remember that the review stated this was a book you don't want to finish This is so true; I am sad to have finished it . The plot takes so many twists and turns; the ending wraps up all !lose ends with surprising revelations .
