NOTICE TO STAFF: There has been a disturbing increase in cheeriness, sprightly behavior, and overall optimism of late. Please resume your former dark, ominous terrors at your earliest convenience. --Mgmt Evie Sage has never been happier to be the assistant to The Villain. Who would have thought that working for an outrageously handsome (shhh, bad for his brand) evil overlord would be so rewarding? Still, the business of being bad is demanding, the forces of good are annoyingly persistent, and said forbidding boss is somewhat...er, out-of-evil-office. But Rennedawn is in grave trouble, and all signs--Kingsley's included--point to catastrophe. Something peculiar is happening with the kingdom's magic, and it's made The Villain's manor vulnerable to their enemies...including their nemesis, the king. Now it's time for Evie to face her greatest challenge: protecting The Villain's lair, all of his nefarious works, and maybe (provided no one finds out) the entire kingdom. No pressure, Evie. It's time to step out of her comfort zone and learn new skills. Like treason. Dagger work. Conspiring with the enemy. It's all so...so...delightfully fun. But what happens when the assistant to The Villain is ready to become his apprentice? The Assistant and the Villain series is best enjoyed in order.

Funny and lighthearted! I didn’t love this as much as book 1 but will definitely be continuing the series.Evie is leaning in to her more villainous side after Trystan is captured. It was fun seeing her become a little fiercer and embrace more difficult emotions rather than keep them hidden behind a smile. Meanwhile, the Villain is worried about corrupting Evie all while fighting to keep her from harm and ignoring how he truly feels. This is a slow burn in the best possible way.I was happily surprised by the additional POVs. I loved learning more about Becky and her family. The world outside the manor is explored and we continue to learn about Rennedawn’s story. The middle of the book drags a little but the last fourth picks up again. Then the ending leaves you wanting to figure out how everything will come together.Definitely pick this up if you’re in the mood for a funny, cozy fantasy with the slowest of slow burns, and enchanting characters.
This is such a great series and I absolutely love this book! Almost done with this one already and just had the third book delivered recently! Definitely recommend this series!
I just love everything about this series. Hannah is amazing and so are her characters. The book is so read worthy! If you like fantasy and cool banter, a bit of humor and the absolute best of relationships, it's for you. There's cool creatures, a unique magic system, and a frog with a spelling sign... Need I say more?
Loved it. Silly goofy book with plot. Cute romance. Don’t come into reading this book and expect a high stakes fantasy romance but a “The Office” meets Disney villain vibe.
I can’t describe how much I love this series so far. It is just what I need when I need to escape from reality for just a little bit! I am also thankful that I have the third book already and can jump right into it! If you love a slow burn, very very minimal- almost closed door (🤷🏼♀️) that is just so fun to read then def give this series a try!
