"Magical from nail-biting beginning to shocking end!"--Danielle L. Jensen, #1 New York Times bestselling author of A Fate Inked in Blood

NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER - A woman who wields magical tarot cards lands herself in a false engagement with the headmaster of a mysterious academy in this first installment of an enthralling fantasy romance series from the bestselling author of A Deal with the Elf King.

The dazzling first edition hardcover of Arcana Academy will feature gold foil page edges, designed endpapers, two interior black-and-white maps, a custom-stamped case, and a premium dust jacket with foil--while supplies last!

Clara Graysword has survived the underworld of Eclipse City through thievery, luck, and a whole lot of illegal magic. After a job gone awry, Clara is sentenced to a lifetime in prison for inking tarot cards--a rare power reserved for practitioners at the elite Arcana Academy.

Just when it seems her luck has run dry, the academy's enigmatic headmaster, Prince Kaelis, offers her an escape--for a price. Kaelis believes that Clara is the perfect tool to help him steal a tarot card from the king and use it to re-create an all-powerful card long lost to time.

In order to conceal her identity and keep her close, Kaelis brings Clara to Arcana Academy, introducing her as the newest first-year student and his bride-to-be.

Thrust into a world of arcane magic and royal intrigue, where one misstep will send her back to prison or worse, Clara finds that the prince she swore to hate may not be what he seems. But can she risk giving him power over the world--and her heart? Or will she take it for herself?

3.5 ⭐️ fun and new!

This is not a standalone. Next book not out yet, unfortunately.Dark academia needs a new take on romantasy. This was so fun. I love dark academia and this one actually has classes and is in an academic setting. Some books saying that they are dark academia aren’t actually, but this is. I didn’t connect to the characters as much as I wanted to. The FMC could be insufferable times; she just had her moments. I didn’t understand parts of the world building, specifically the history, but I’m hoping that will be cleared up in the next book.I wish going in that I knew about the tarot card glossary in the back. So here’s your heads up to look at the tarot card glossary. That would’ve been helpful if I had seen it in the table of contents (my mistake).

my top read of 2025

The magic system is the most complex I’ve read in a long time. Thank god for the glossary because I was TAKING NOTES trying to keep up. Looked like a damn crime evidence board. Elise honey how did you write that???And the female main character being completely self sufficient- no need for a man to pick her up and put her back together- fabulous. Something I haven’t seen in romantasy often. The slow burn was SLOW BURNING in this enemies to lovers to ??? But honestly I’m here for it. That man needed to work!!!!You’ll be hearing from my therapist for that ending, xoxo

Wow

This was definitely something different then I've read before. Especially with tarot aspect, which I liked. This is honestly the 1st time I've read something with tarot being the magic system which I found to be very unique. It saw so to start but that's fantasy for you. This labeled enemies to lovers but it only seemed to be a one-sided ordeal and it makes me giggle. Give it read
