THE INSTANT #1 NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER
Once Upon a Time meets The Office in Hannah Maehrer's laugh-out-loud viral TikTok series turned novel, about the sunshine assistant to an Evil Villain...and their unexpected romance.
ASSISTANT WANTED: Notorious, high-ranking villain seeks loyal, levelheaded assistant for unspecified office duties, supporting staff for random mayhem and terror, and other Dark Things In General. Discretion a must. Excellent benefits.
With ailing family to support, Evie Sage's employment status isn't just important, it's vital. So when a mishap with Rennedawn's most infamous Villain results in a job offer--naturally, she says yes. No job is perfect, of course, but even less so when you develop a teeny crush on your terrifying, temperamental, and undeniably hot boss. Don't find evil so attractive, Evie.
But just when she's getting used to severed heads suspended from the ceiling and the odd squish of an errant eyeball beneath her heel, Evie suspects this dungeon has a huge rat...and not just the literal kind. Because something rotten is growing in the kingdom of Rennedawn, and someone wants to take the Villain--and his entire nefarious empire--out.
Now Evie must not only resist drooling over her boss but also figure out exactly who is sabotaging his work...and ensure he makes them pay.
After all, a good job is hard to find.
The Assistant and the Villain series is best enjoyed in order.

Great book if you like fantasy novels. easy to read and really interesting storyline
I love this book so much!! Fractured fairytale, Disney vibes for adults, sweet, funny and oh, so cozy. I love the world they live in and all the fun characters. Such a sweet romance. I wanna take my time and live in this world as long as I can! I’m not rushing to read this series. I’m going to savor it! Also, the physical book is perfect. I love the purple cloth cover, gold foil, “Villain” sprayed edges, and the Disneyesque endpapers. 10/10 for me!
I finally read this after having followed the TikTok series since it started. And this book absolutely blew my expectations out of the water. The characters feel relatable. Not a single character is one dimensional, and that's amazing. The writing is immaculate. At first the jumps between chapters threw me off because it was very reminiscent of the video series in that some things lacked build up and felt disconnected, but it was in a way that didn't take away from the plot and book. It just felt like a new way of writing. This has become one of my favorite books and I can't wait to read the rest!
3.5 stars!Ok, I have mixed feelings about Assistant to the Villain. The premise was promising, the FMC is unique and quirky, the plot was unpredictable, and the humor had me giggling to myself a few times! I think my biggest disappointment was the Villain himself. I don't know what I was expecting, but he was too nice? Too good-hearted? I don't know, I honestly wanted one of two things: 1) the Villain to be someone who appeared evil at first glance but had a good heart underneath (like Rhysand from ACOTAR), or 2) for him to be charming out the outside but a manipulative and terrible monster underneath the facade (like my favorite shadow daddy, the Darkling from the Shadow and Bone series). Also, the Villain doesn't seem as powerful as he should be for someone going up against a king and terrorizing villages. He kept getting himself in a bind and needed saving, and the worst thing he did was accuse Evie of something she didn't do, which upset her? He wasn't morally grey whatsoever. It took me so long to finish this book because I had to get past the first 2-3 chapters. The dialogue at first was a little weird and awkward, making the first few chapters rough, especially with the time jump that happens at the beginning. Sometimes the humor hits, other times it doesn't. However, I still enjoyed it. Assistant to the Villain is a good vibes read once you get into it. The ending surprised me, so I will continue to read the series! I am hopeful that this will continue to be entertaining as we move into book 2.
I have never gotten a special edition before, but this one is truly amazing and worth the money! From cover to cover it is so detailed and beautiful. I was very pleased to have gotten it. When she makes other special editions to the rest of the books in this series I can assure you it's an instant buy from me.There was no damage whatsoever.I'm very satisfied with my order.
