Spend your summer with an unforgettable novel about falling in love for the first time from the #1 New York Times bestselling author of All the Bright Places.
With graduation on the horizon, budding writer Claudine Henry is focused on three things: hanging out with her best friend, starting college in the fall, and having a fling. Then her parents announce they're splitting up, and her entire future--not to mention the summer--feels like it's crumbling under her feet.
When Claude's mom impulsively whisks them both away to a remote island, it's the last place Claude can imagine finding her footing. Until Jeremiah Crew appears. Miah is a local trail guide with a passion for photography, and a past he doesn't like to talk about. He's brash and annoying, but he's also the only one who sees Claude for who she wants to be. And before long, she's craving every breathless moment she spends with him. A fling is one thing, but surely there isn't enough time to fall in love, especially if it means putting her already broken heart at risk?
Compulsively readable and impossible to forget, Jennifer Niven's luminous novel is a tender portrait of a young woman determined to write her own next chapter--love, heartbreak, mosquito bites, and all.

hands down my fav book (aside from all the bright places ALSO by jen niv). i read this book almost a year ago and i still love everything about it. literally perfection in about 400 pages. love love love
My daughter was obsessed with All the Bright Places, and when her writing teacher bought it for her for Christmas, I thought she might like another by the same author. I bought this one for her and when it arrived, I started to read it out of curiosity and then I could not put it down. I ended up ordering another copy for her. This might be a YA novel, but it hit all the right spots. This author really makes you feel the characters and experience what they go through. It has good banter and chemistry, but the overall story really hits you. It was an accidental find, that ended up as one of my favs.
Amazing books
I loved the depth of this story. More than a romance, it showed the coming together of two young people who shared keen understanding and painful circumstances. Claudine aka Claude aka Captain is reeling from her father's decision that he no longer wants a marriage. Jeremiah aka Miah has had to grow up too fast after his father's departure and his mother's serious depression that renders her unable to care for Miah's four younger sisters for weeks at a time. The physical attraction is compelling and beautiful, but they also enjoy captivating island adventures that provide humor and amazing description. I so loved the sexual dance between them, at times intense, at other times so, so gentle. Their inevitable departures for separate worlds at the end filled me with longing, wishing it could have been different. The only thing that consoled me was reading the acknowledgements at the end where Jennifer Niven reveals that she really did spend time on an island with a young man like Miah, they really did share all of the adventures, and they married six months after they met. Now that's a happy ending.
This was a pretty boring story, the author seems more focused on her views on sex/virginity than an actual plot.
