Fantastic!

Devoted in Death, Book 41 of the In Death series by JD Robb @jdrobbauthor - Eve & Peabody are investigating the death of a cello player who looks like he is part of a serial killer's victim. A woman is missing & based on the timing, they have less than 48 hours to find her before she is killed. A detective from Arkansas comes to NY to get help from Eve as he has a case that the FBI doesn’t think is linked but he does. Once Eve hears him out she agrees. They find a floater & his place is in the middle of the target area that Eve has narrowed down. They went in & arrested the 2 people who murdered almost 30 people & rescued 2 people who had been held hostage & tortured. Trueheart passed his Detective’s exam! Woohoo!

Another great story!

At the beginning, I wasn't sure how this story would play out, perhaps thinking this would be nothing of much importance next to the last book in the series. But Ms. Roberts sure knows how to make these stories sing so that the reader feels each bit of tension as Eve goes through the steps of finding, and catching, the killers. Just because we know who the culprits are right from the start doesn't make capturing them any easier for our heroes. And bringing an outsider in on the case was pure genius.Deputy Banner brought a breath of fresh air into the book and played well off of our more established characters. In some ways he helped us see what we've become inured to through fresh eyes and brought a new perspective to our heroes' long-established routines so we don't get bored. The most interesting choice I read in this book, however, rested upon the duality of love portrayed throughout between Roarke and Eve and the two unsubs, Ella-Loo and Darryl. Nothing could have been more stark, or at opposite ends of the spectrum, than these two couples and how they expressed their love for one another. On the one side you have the typical loving couple who care about each other and work together as a team with each other and the people around them. (And you know who I mean here!).On the flip side, the other couple acts as if everything and everyone is there to serve them. I'm still up in the air as to whether they truly love one another or if it was merely a lust that united them over their killing spree, one that will burn out now that they've been caught as we know they will be. Eve's track record won't allow for anything less, especially with Roarke in her corner. And that's the true beauty of this story because everything that happens is there to delineate and expand upon Eve's and Roarke's relationship with one another. That's why I keep reading the series. To watch their love expand and grow and give them the peace that they never had growing up. Everything else is just window dressing with an adrenaline fueled kick when Eve goes in to take down the bad guys.
