Bought it new, ending up getting a signed first edition. Can't wait for little one to open it :)

My child enjoys this series and read through the entire series quickly.

This is last books from this series,my granddaughter loves from start first one .Perfect for girls and boys too.

The kids will love this book anyway, but I was disappointed it was advertised as a hardcover and it's a paperback. It's not worth returning, but future buyers beware.

My 10-year old daughter wanted this book and rated it 4 out of 5 stars because she prefers the other books in the series more. She likes that it is a graphic novel in diary form.

Good quality with awesome price~

I’m going to admit it I love reading these books. They make you want to know what’s going to happen next. But if your going to order it suggestion start from ‘emmie and me’ original book. And work your way towards to understand the characters even more. This book gives unique perspectives in each book. To struggles each character faces. But the endings are… well I guess you will just have to figure that out yourself.

Another great book in this series that my kids tore through and have read several times

We loved the 1st four books in the series. I liked this one, my daughter felt "meh". We were hoping for more. THe book felt a bit repetitive and didn't go as "deep" as the other ones.

My granddaughter has been reading Terri Liebenson's books for the last 2 years so I was happy to see this one geared to boys. My grandson read it in about 2 hours; he loved it! He is 11, granddaughter is 13.

RATE: 4.5COMPLIMENTS/SUMMARY: Very good book. Had 2 different characters, sporty popular people and arty less cool ones. Tyler (the main character) struggled to find the balance of basketball and art. But in the midst of those challenges he wondered whether he should keep his old (sort of mean) friends or hang out with a less popular girl and loose his “status”.CRITIQUES: too based on looks and popularity; not what middle school is like.PARENTAL GUIDE: may make kids feel insecure about looks or their popularity. Suggestive material.AGE: 10-13

This is a straightforward school-daze tale, but it feels more authentic, and is consequently much more engaging, than most stories set in middle school.Our heroine Emmie is a talented artist. But she has issues about her looks and popularity, and her choice of dorky friends, and so on. No manufactured family trauma or drama, just basic growing up stuff that is so important at that time. The author sets out Emmie's situation with a light touch and great sympathy, and the reader is drawn more and more to the character as the book progresses. Apparently, the Emmie character and others from this book are featured in the five volume "Emmie & Friends" series, and this makes sense she and her friends have a depth of feeling and a realness that would keep a reader engaged over a series.This time around the main story arc turns on Emmie's crush on Tyler. Again, Tyler is well conceived and presented. He's also an artist, but is a talented basketball player as well. No reason he can't be both. He is more sensitive and perceptive than most middle school boys, but that isn't necessarily saying a lot, and he makes all of the usual mistakes while interacting with Emmie. Again, though, the drama is restrained and is all the more interesting because it is never over the top and is always relatable.The upshot is that we end up with two fine and attractive main characters, and a load of guy and gal pals who are equally authentic. Even the teachers and parents are normal and recognizable. What that means, then, is that the book can't sneak by on outrageous developments, but has to earn its credibility the hard way - through good writing, convincing dialogue, and realistic plotting. When combined with dry humor and some funny deadpan and throwaway bits the recipe is complete. Everything is tied up a bit too neatly at the end, but there's plenty of room in middle grade fiction for feel-good endings, so I don't think that's a negative.The graphic approach is interesting and worth noting. This is, in that regard, really three graphic novels. Tyler's chapters are in the first person and consist mostly of text with some drawings slipped in, sort of in an illustrated novel style. Emmie's chapters are in first person, but consist entirely of colorful cartoon panels with dialogue and thought bubbles, and no other text. Tyler and Emmie find themselves teamed up on an art project in which they are to co-author and co-illustrate a comic book. Interspersed throughout our book are chapters from their comic book in progress. It's in a style that feels intentionally naive, as would befit a middle grade art class effort. The comic book indirectly parallels Tyler and Emmie's growing relationship, which struck me as an especially clever approach.So, bottom line? Appealing, perceptive, entertaining, and generously warm hearted. I've enjoyed all of the books that now are in the "Emmie & Friends" series and Truly Tyler is no exception. Terri Libenson creates stories that are fast-paced, fun and feel real for the young reader. If you like the graphic novel genre then this is a great book to enjoy. If you haven't ever read a graphic novel then you are missing out! I would highly recommend this book for young readers, probably 5th/6th grade and up. I'm a teacher, and graphic novels such as Truly Tyler are just fun books that most students are easily motivated to read and discuss. How good is Truly Tyler? I got in the mail yesterday, brought it to school and read every free minute I had. Finished it before the kids went home. Too good to put down! If you've never read any of Terri Libenson's books I highly recommend "Invisible Emmie" and "Positively Izzy"...absolute masterpieces!
