Don't miss the JOE PICKETT series--now streaming on Paramount+

In this New York Times bestseller, Wyoming game warden Joe Pickett is determined to find out who put his daughter's life in danger--even if it kills him.

Joe Pickett had good reason to dislike Dallas Cates, and now he has even more--Joe's eighteen-year-old daughter, April, has run off with him. And then comes even worse news: She has been found in a ditch along the highway--alive, but just barely, the victim of blunt force trauma. Cates denies having anything to do with it, but Joe knows in his gut who's responsible. What he doesn't know is the kind of danger he's about to encounter. Cates is bad enough, but Cates's family is like none Joe has ever met.

Another good read; loose plots

I disliked the ending many improbable plots: killing of grouse for romance, Brenda's and Dallas' over reaction to slapping April. How did Nate know Timber was going to enter April's room at the exact time? Not believable. Also, how did Nate and Liv communicate just hours after her escape and debriefing...not believable . Disappointing ending. However, up to that point, interesting read.

Another good one

This is very much like the other Joe Pickett books. Great plot, our favorite characters and fantastic pacing. Feeling that Wyoming wind in my face as I read. These are not gentle yarns like Craig Johnson writes. Don’t get attached to any of the minor characters. They may not be among the living at the end of the novel. And the gritty realism extends to the animals in the books which some folks such as myself would rather not think about. What we do have is a strong, close knit family that expresses the values that I grew up with 70 plus years ago.But Marybeth Pickett is a saint for putting up with Joe continually placing himself in danger as he carries out his duties as a Wyoming game warden.
