A behind-the-scenes look at the art world with a clever mom who saves the day!
If you love thrillers with whip smart female protagonists, then Linda Moore's Five Days in Bogotá is for you. This high-stakes adventure is a page turner that brings something new and refreshing to the genre. Set against the vivid, tense backdrop of 1990s Colombia, this novel offers a pulse-pounding game of cat-and-mouse—but with a twist: the stakes revolve around international fine art, identity, a mother’s motivation to survive and protect her kids, not just bullets and bravado. Ally Blake is a standout protagonist—a freshly widowed California art dealer who lands in Bogotá hoping to save her family from financial ruin, only to be swept into an international money laundering scheme orchestrated by an old flame. What I loved most? Ms. Moore captures the jaded history of US involvement in Latin America that explains the distrust of that so many deeply feel to this day. Full confession, I’m married to a Chilean and this subplot rings true as Moore artistically interweaves politics and subterfuge into the tale. The authenticity history as told through the complex character of Ally who is neither a super-spy or an action hero, but a real woman—intelligent, vulnerable, resourceful— engages the reader from the get-go as Ally grapples with danger, grief, and impossible choices. Watching her navigate the complex art world and tangled politics of a city in turmoil made for a gripping, immersive read. Moore’s writing is razor-sharp and cinematic, and the setting feels alive, especially the scenes in Bogotá’s streets, art fairs, and mountainous terrain. Fingers crossed for a movie deal soon. Highly recommend.
Another art world intrigue from Linda Moore, where a savvy art dealer gets unwittingly involved in an international money-laundering scheme. She has to figure out who to trust in this must-read thriller. I was hooked until the very end. Highly recommended!
This book enlightened me. I had no idea that selling fine art at an international art fair could be so treacherous. This is a wild ride and a book that I could not put down! Enjoy!
High end art meets money laundering scheme meets South America location!Ally risks everything to exhibit art in Bogota. She quickly discovers her art has been tampered with & her ex has involved her in a money laundering scheme. She has to do everything possible to keep herself and her family safe.Read if you love...- thriller- high end artAs someone who spent a month living in Bogota (long story), I was excited to read this one for the location. And also the synopsis sounded really good too! This one is a pretty fast paced (takes place over the course of five days) thriller that kept my attention with it's accurate detail (the author has a background in art dealing), characters, and plot. There were definitely some curveballs I didn't expect, which I love. And I didn't have it all figured out by the end, which is always a win!Overall, I'd recommend this one!Location: Bogotá, ColombiaContent warnings: kidnapping; gun violence; injury; and more that I'm def forgetting
