Flesh: A Novel (Booker Prize Winner)

Delivery from Stone and Quill was great received my book earlier than expected. The packaging was excellent and the book is in great condition.

I started reading this book last night for an hour or so and finished it tonight. It really is brilliant, even though it’s stark and ironically flesh-less. There is nothing extra or excessive but somehow that makes it even more rich and meaningful.

Very good book with psychological inside into human interconnection in extended family unit.It is a very engaging read.Paige turner with literary super talent , highly recommend.

I was curious about this one due to the awards and buzz around it, but it did not work for me in the end. I thought the detached writing was appropriate, for while reading this it felt as if teenage István, the subject of ongoing trauma and abuse by an older woman, was looking at his life from afar rather than being present in it. But otherwise it was a disturbing read and hard to get through, mostly because I felt it was dragging a bit. I went back and forth between the audio and physical copy. I’m not sure there was a better way to read this, but parts were well done and others missed the mark for me. Overall, I am glad I read it but not sure this is one that will stick with me.

Exceptional tale told in a monotone. It is a life lived from poor to rich to poor with no questions asked. Each chapter of Istvan's existence just happens. We are voyeurs and almost unfazed. Did I enjoy it? Not certain.
