Love the JD Robb series of books. Have almost all of them. Once you start reading, they are hard to put down. Highly recommend them.

The usual REALLY good mystery with twists and turns and plenty of memorable human characters from J.D. Robb.

It was intriguing and twisty and had me reading way past my bedtime. Eve Dallas is one of my favorite characters.I highly recommend this book and the whole series.

Great book! I'm replacing all the JD Robb paperbacks for hardbacks as I go through and re-read the entire series every so often. Love Nora Roberts/JD Robb books. I don't collect the Nora Roberts books anymore as I only have room in my quilt room for one oversized bookcase & its full of my books from my favorites...JD Robb, Lilian Jackson-Braun, Harry Potter series, etc. If you haven't read the Death series by JD Robb, you're in for a treat!

It's been years since I've read J.D.Robb, who is actually my very favorite author. So when I recently saw an email showing her latest was now out, I decided to take the opportunity to at least renew my interest, and, hopefully, try to catch up with the backlog of books by this prolific writer that I haven't yet read...So it was a little surprising that, after learning of the first death as soon as I opened the book, that, as the investigation started, I felt the story begin to drag a little. Yes, I'm aware that this is normal in police cases, but I was also anxious to once again feel my own connection with the main character, Eve Dallas, and her spouse, Roarke...It didn't take long to find the first very important clue, which exploded into lies, deceit, drugs, death and more. The only thing was that a second victim was found which moved the investigation back in time to a private school... As soon as I entered the halls (metaphorically learning of the school through the book) of the Theresa A. Gold (TAG) Academy, my mind started to think about the state of our schools today and how children can be manipulated, bullied, assaulted, all under the supervision of those to whom we've placed trust. Teachers, or the Headmaster, as was found at TAG who were involved in allowing these things to occur. Specifically, it was the headmaster who was more concerned about bringing money into the school and cultivating relationships with the parents of the rich students, while those who were there by scholarships were often harassed, one even beaten badly...And, of course, when some teachers started to complain, that headmaster quickly found another position in a similar school and started her routine activities there... So that when a new headmaster was named and things began to greatly change, there were many students who soon, for one reason or another, gone from TAG... The atmosphere had been functioning satisfactorily for many years.Following the money...following the headmaster and students was not easy after eight years. Yet, when a change occurs in the present, then earlier facts of bad behavior of all kinds come to the surface, it doesn't take long to discover the Truth! No matter how long and how deep the earlier transgressions had been hidden only to be found with sufficient evidence to prove the criminal laws that had been broken.During the investigation, as many rich people became involved, there were, unfortunately, what we have come to expect in America. Those who checked the background of Dallas and Eve and saw no educational backgrounds that could possibly make them peers with those under investigation. As in all of Robb's books, she enjoys (and readers benefit) spotlighting the fact that their backgrounds have brought them both to the success where they are.Roarke, of course, although probably known by the intellectuals involved, is soooo rich that he's often building off-planet... He's soooo rich that, often, when Eve has to enter a building on a case, the building is owned by Roarke and she has total access, which often upsets building occupants...And, yet, Roarke is so in love with Eve, that he ensures her life style is indeed on the same level of class as those who she sometimes...jails! In this novel, knowing that Eve would be talking to those that consider themselves the rich and famous, he purposely pulled together an outfit, along with a long leather coat that would ensure that everybody would understand... Eve Dallas is somebody you'd better treat right...or you may find yourself next facing Roarke. Not a man to have on the wrong side of your meeting, if you get my meaning!For me, the characters make the story. So, if you enjoy police procedures, set in the future...don't forget to search for J. D. Robb, Aka Nora Roberts!Robb has taken a major issue direct from headlines and presented a wonderful novel, spotlighting the growth of lying as a routine part of daily life. Dr Kent started his day normally as he does when he has a day off. He was making his plans when the doorbell rang and got his package from the carrier. When he looked to see who gave it to the return address, there was none. He opens the package to find a wooden box. Inside the box was a cheap golden egg. He wonders who sent it to him as he cracks open the egg. After opening it, a gas emits and he dies instantly.when his partner comes home from work, he discovers him dead. Eve is called to work on this homicide. At first she is puzzled as to why. The doctor seemed well liked. So why was he killed? Who could had done it? Will Eve and Peabody be able to solve this case?The author has written an exquisite novel. As I tried to figure out who was the murderer and why, I wasn’t having much success so I quit trying. The author didn’t disappoint me as this book is so well written. The pages kept turning! I just wished I could have read it without interruptions. A great story! Do read it!

I laughed, I cried this is why I read these books. I can remember reading the 1st in death books while riding to work on the subway; laughing out loud, or dabbing away tears. Once I pick up a JD Robb book, everything else has to wait.My only criticism is when you make Eve sound like an idiot. In the earlier books, it was when she would call her husband “Ace”. It just didn’t ring true as something Eve would say. In the latest books, it’s making Eve sound stupid by pretending she doesn’t understand “sayings” like in this book, “a bridge to far” and “get the lead out”. It would play sincere if maybe these saying were foreign to Roarke since he wasn’t born in this country, but Eve was. She didn’t have to learn the language and went to public & state schools, so it makes no sense that she would act like she can’t figure them out. Some of them are on national intelligence tests for school. Probably even on the police boards. And if she really wanted to know what they mean, perhaps you should have her looking up their origins. That sometimes explains how they worked their way into the English language. When I’m reading, it never fails to break the mood you’ve created. Please stop!

I really love how she uses a great cast of characters old and new, and such diversity in so many. Very rarely do I see stereotyped descriptions by Eve herself, though there are plenty of bigots in her stories that do.Still this was a good read for me, and not great. Don't get me wrong I still love the series, and will keep reading.I just wish she used her secondary cast of characters to greater (better?) effect. I realize she can't possibly use all of them every book, it would have too many side stories and be too bloated. Still I would like to see one or two get more involved in the cases.I still love Eve, Roarke & Peabody just as much as always, but I miss getting to see the rest of the cast even in just little bits.The story mystery was a bit gruesome, and while I liked that this time we weren't subjected to the bad guy point of view too early in the story, I think I figured it out too early anyway.I have to say the victims families were well written and I even cried, which I really don't often do.Still I found how the murder weapon was created, a little... unbelievable? Someone who had been a drug addict that long, being that clever just seemed a bit off to me, especially given the earliest suspicions of who had created it.Other than that I really enjoyed the story right up until the very end, and it just didn't have the big finale or wrap up I'm used to. It wasn't a bad ending, it just felt a little flat compared to her usual flare.Still a good 4 star read.

There are so many things I love about this series, not the least of which is the romance between Eve and Roarke.In this the fiftieth book in the In Death Series Eve faces a puzzle that isn't making any sense at all. There doesn't appear to be any reason for the targeted death of pediatrician Kent Abner. Everyone appears to have liked him, married for years, a family that loves him. There is shock and overwhelming grief as well as fear in this tale's beginning.An unknown toxic agent, fortunately dissipated before the body was discovered is the primary concern for the moment. Even though Eve has told him she's fine and was cleared at the scene Roarke is still worried.The investigation brings into play several favorite characters starting with Peabody and then others from EDD Feeney, McNab, Carmichael. Of course there's Summerset the butler trading barbs with Eve and the cat Galahad and so many more.As always a riveting story with more than one murder and plenty of frustration and tension for Eve and her team. Plus that sizzling heat between her and Roarke that has come so very far from the first book.I loved this book from the beginning to the very satisfactory ending.I think I'm going to go back to the very beginning and read through again. It's amazing that this is now the 50th book.

Fifty books into this series and you wonder, what can the author do next to top the last book and J.D. Robb pulls out all the stops with this one. Her mystery of who the killer(s) were left me hanging until mid-way when I finally started seeing the clues as Eve, Peabody and the gang rustled them up as well. The story is full of twists and turns that just had me on the edge of my seat and I was glued to the pages till the very end since I wanted to see how this story would end. GOLDEN IN DEATH is a true marvel as the author does a masterful job capturing the confusion Eve finds when she is assigned this baffling case. I just could not put this book down, even to go to sleep. It was that good.What makes this series so beloved with her readers is the way the characters continue to grow with each book. Eve and Raork especially are connected on a soul level that comes across perfectly in GOLDEN IN DEATH. They have been through so much in the last several books that it is nice to see the connection between them grow stronger in this new book. Some may complain that not all of Eve’s friends, etc are involved in this fiftieth book but then we wouldn’t have a story that is so compelling and addicting. We got the core group (Eve, Roark, Peabody, McNabb, etc) involved with this one and it works just fine with the group that is needed by Eve. With an addition of a new secondary character or two, the reader can enjoy a storyline that could be cut right from the pages in the future.GOLDEN IN DEATH works because the author delivers a complex mystery to solve filled with compelling characters that literally step from the pages and into your living room. They are bold, well written and just downright amazing in my opinion. This is an author that knows how to craft a story that will leave you breathless. If you enjoy a high-octane story that will eave you eager for more than I urge you to run to grab GOLDEN IN DEATH. It’s truly a masterpiece and now I can’t see where this author goes next in the fifty-first book.This is an objective review and not an endorsement
