"A true original." --Katherine Rundell, bestselling author of Impossible Creatures

Now available as a deluxe limited hardcover edition of the beloved international bestseller, Howl's Moving Castle. The stunning package is perfect for gift-giving and collecting and will feature new jacket art and full-color endpapers by Devin Elle Kurtz, digitally printed edges, foil stamping on the case, and a frontispiece and chapter decorations by internationally bestselling author Stefan Bachmann.

Diana Wynne Jones's unique combination of magic, humor, and imagination dazzles in this modern classic--beloved by readers of all ages.

Sophie Hatter has the great misfortune of being the eldest of three daughters, destined to fail miserably should she ever leave home to seek her fate. But when she unwittingly attracts the attention of the Witch of the Waste, Sophie finds herself transformed into an old woman. Her only chance at breaking the curse lies in the ever-moving castle in the hills: the Wizard Howl's castle. And Howl has a reputation for stealing young women's hearts. At least Sophie will be safe from that...right? To untangle the enchantment, Sophie must handle the heartless Howl, strike a bargain with a fire demon, and meet the Witch head-on. Along the way, she discovers that there's far more to the irresistibly charming Howl--and herself--than first meets the eye. They might even capture each other's hearts.

Howl's Moving Castle is beloved by generations of fantasy readers and the source for Hayao Miyazaki's film, which was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Animated Feature and was recently rereleased in celebration of its twentieth anniversary.

Excellent Book

This is one of my favorite books. I enjoyed it as a teenager, and I still enjoy it as an adult. In fact, I already owned a copy, but I couldn't resist this beautiful edition when it was on sale. If you've seen the lovely Ghibli movie, then you have a somewhat accurate idea of the first half of the book. In the 2nd half, the movie plot diverges wildly.Characters 10/10: These are fully developed, complex characters that I'm delighted to root for. Howl in particular lingers in the mind as a unique character. He toes the line between being exasperating and being charming without ever quite going too far for likeability. And our main protagonist, Sophie, is just wonderful. She's intelligent, spirited, practical, and full of heart.Atmosphere 9/10: I suppose this falls into the magical realism camp. These very relatable characters live in a fairytale world, and take some very strange things for granted as they get on with living their lives.Writing 8/10: I wouldn't call the writing exactly poetic, but it's extremely engaging. Diana Wynne Jones is a master of dropping little hints that fly right past me until the big reveal at the end, when everything falls into place. She's also great at building psychological depth. And I love her sense of humor.Plot 9/10: Unique in the best possible way. Excellent pacing. The plot rewards a reread, as it's easy to miss little clues the first time through.Intrigue 10/10: I was thoroughly engaged, even in the quieter moments, because the characters and dialogue are so engaging. But there are plenty of exciting moments as well.Logic 10/10: Diana Wynne Jones weaves a story well. It may be in a fairytale world, but everything works together. Even seemingly random happenings have an explanation in the end.Enjoyment 10/10: Like I said, I love this book.
