Art restorer and legendary spy Gabriel Allon must solve the perfect crime in the dazzling new tale of murder, greed, and corruption from #1 New York Times bestselling novelist Daniel Silva.

"Daniel Silva spins a yarn better than any living author and I appreciated the chance to disappear into a great book, if only for a single night (there is no stopping a Silva book once I've begun). --Todd Wilkins, Best Thriller Books

Sometimes the only way to recover a stolen masterpiece is to steal it back . . .

Gabriel Allon has been awarded a commission to restore one of the most important paintings in Venice. But when he discovers the body of a mysterious woman floating in the waters of the Venetian Lagoon, he finds himself in a desperate race to recover a lost masterpiece by Leonardo da Vinci.

The painting, a portrait of a beautiful young girl, has been gathering dust in a storeroom at the Vatican Museums for more than a century, misattributed and hidden beneath a worthless picture by an unknown artist. Because no one knows that the Leonardo is there, no one notices when it disappears one night during a suspicious power outage. No one but the ruthless mobsters and moneymen behind the theft -- and the mysterious woman whom Gabriel found in a watery grave in Venice. A woman without a name. A woman without a face.

The action moves at breakneck speed from the galleries and auction houses of London to an enclave of unimaginable wealth on the French Riviera -- and, finally, to a shocking climax in St. Peter's Square, where the life of a pope hangs in the balance. An elegant and stylish journey through the dark side of the art world and the Vatican's murky finances, An Inside Job proves once again that Daniel Silva is the reigning master of international intrigue and suspense.

Very enjoyable

This is the 25th in the Gabriel Allon series by Daniel Silva. I have read them all and enjoyed most of them. This one ranks right up there with the best. Allon is his usual swashbuckling yet self-effacing self. The plot is intricate and, given the true history of the Vatican's finances, almost believable. I felt I was right there, inside the Vatican, with the characters as they carried out their nefarious schemes and with Allon as he tried to thwart them. One of the reasons this series is so successful is the author's ability to create interesting and very believable characters who support the story well. This book is no different in that regard. There is a larger than usual cast of characters. All are necessary to move the story along, so I suggest the reader pay close attention to who is doing what and to whom. Definitely a book worth reading as part of the series or a stand alone. Gabriel Allon is one of the best continuing fictional characters. I hope to read another 25 books in this series.

Daniel Silva never misses…..

Daniel Silva and his writing never miss. Every year for the last 20+ years I patiently wait for a new novel from Mr. Silva and have yet to be disappointed. My Tbr gets put on hold for Allon & company so I can go along for an adventure. Every book transports me to the location and am terribly sorry it’s over once I finish the book. I don’t know how Daniel Silva does it but I applaud him for his work and writing. Can’t wait for the next one. I wish the books were longer so I can spend more time with Allon and company. Can’t wait for next year and a new adventure. This book was such a fun ride and I didn’t know where it was going to end. You would think you know where it was headed but Silva pulls the rug out from under you. Sit back and enjoy the ride.

A Continuing Adventure

Another great book by Mr. Silva. I’ve enjoyed reading all of the Gabriel Allon series and this book was no exception. I really like that with Mr. Silva’a writing style we are able to see Mr. Allon age with each book. He’s now a happily married retired spy and art restorer. The plots are more refined and less “shoot them up” than they were when he was a younger man but the plots no less interesting. The only downside is that I have to wait another 12 months for the next book.

Another Great Novel By Siva

Once again Daniel Siva delivers another wonderful novel that continues the life of Gabriel Allon. Also bringing to life quite a list of characters that are all important to the story. This time there is a list of characters provided at the beginning of the book that you can return to to remind you who they are. Trust me, I think most people will be referring to this list as they read on. As always, I love to read Silva novels and as usual found myself sad when I finished this one. Now I have to wait another year before another he releases another one!?

Well done!

Mr. Silva has, once again, stunningly proven exactly why he is the exemplar of what it means to tell a good story well. There is no higher compliment in literature, nor can there be. His ability to add substantive depth and breadth to beloved characters with whom we thought we were acquainted, with traits and adventures we thought we could resolve in advance, leaves us with only gratitude and appreciation for the craft he has been kind enough hone and share!
