Stonewall Honor Book * A Time Magazine Best YA Book of All Time

"A book for warriors, divas, artists, queens, individuals, activists, trend setters, and anyone searching for the courage to be themselves."--Mackenzi Lee, New York Times bestselling author of The Gentleman's Guide to Vice and Virtue

It's 1989 in New York City, and for three teens, the world is changing.

Reza is an Iranian boy who has just moved to the city with his mother to live with his stepfather and stepbrother. He's terrified that someone will guess the truth he can barely acknowledge about himself. Reza knows he's gay, but all he knows of gay life are the media's images of men dying of AIDS.

Judy is an aspiring fashion designer who worships her uncle Stephen, a gay man with AIDS who devotes his time to activism as a member of ACT UP. Judy has never imagined finding romance...until she falls for Reza and they start dating.

Art is Judy's best friend, their school's only out and proud teen. He'll never be who his conservative parents want him to be, so he rebels by documenting the AIDS crisis through his photographs.

As Reza and Art grow closer, Reza struggles to find a way out of his deception that won't break Judy's heart--and destroy the most meaningful friendship he's ever known.

This is a bighearted, sprawling epic about friendship and love and the revolutionary act of living life to the fullest in the face of impossible odds.

A poignant, loving masterpiece . Not enough stars in the heavens !!

Thank you Ali Velshi ! This book should never be a “Banned Book Club”as this was & is life ! This is how a found this masterpiece. It brought me back to my time as I lived through this awful time in our gay history . This is a powerful , unflinching story of fear & hope & what kept us going LOVE! The ending with Art & the Pulse Nightclub brought the story to a hopeful - loving ending 💜. I will never look at Jelly beans the same way. Thank you Abdi & give us more HOPE & LOVE as I think this story came from your loving soul🫶🏻

Unimpressive

My kiddo didn’t like it and I could t get into it, either. Seems too juvenile for the genre.

Loved the audiobook…bought a hard copy

What a beautiful, engaging story! The audiobook was perfectly cast and spectacularly performed. I typically listen to audiobooks while I’m on the road, but unlike other audiobooks, with Like a Love Story I found myself sitting in the car to finish chapters when I reached my destination and listening around the house. I only wish I’d also picked up a hard copy to have on hand, because in addition to the heartfelt story, Abdi Nazemian’s prose bursts with little nuggets of truth and feeling and insight that I desperately wanted to underline, revisit, remember, and possibly even beg my grandmother to cross-stitch onto a throw pillow. When I finished the audiobook, I immediately ran out and bought a hard copy and another of Nazemian’s novels (for a good sit-down read this time.) Looking forward to revisiting Like a Love Story soon, as well as exploring the author’s other work.

Good condition

The book arrived in good condition and on time. As for the story well I'm not sure how to feel about it, for the most part it was good except for the end I kind of felt like it was sorta off the rails in terms of the storyline like...Spoilers:I understand Uncle Stephen's death but what I don't understand is why the relationship that was being built up for nearly the entire book just like ended, and on top of it all the end just felt very fast... idk it's a great book but I would've liked more from the ending.
