Murder, buried secrets, and one woman's fight for justice...
Detective Samantha Freeman is barely recovering from the devastating accident that killed her fiancé, Ravi, when she's thrust into a chilling murder case. Valerie Turner, a wife and mother of two, is found dead in her kitchen. But as Samantha peels back the layers of Val's seemingly ordinary life, she uncovers shocking secrets-a son given up for adoption, an illicit affair, blackmail, and stolen identities.
The case takes a dark turn when DNA evidence ties the crime to a police officer and reveals long-lost twins separated at birth. As Samantha races to unravel a tangled web of betrayal, the suspect list grows-and so does the danger.
Amid the chaos, Samantha learns she's pregnant, a bittersweet revelation that forces her to fight harder for justice. But with the killer closer than she imagined, can Samantha uncover the truth before more lives are lost-including her own?
Packed with twists, emotional stakes, and heart-pounding suspense, this is a mystery that will keep you hooked until the shocking finale.

My sister and I have been reading novels together at the same time and we communicate at least 3 times a day checking page numbers and thoughts on what's happened so far and who we think is the murderer in this case ... We pretty much had it figured out by the time we met Simon and learned about certain items found hidden in Vals room...
I really enjoyed this book, which is very intriguing. Who had killed Valerie? A gd detective story, I guessed the ending, but it kept me turning the pages. I will be reading more books from this authoress.
It’s a fairly good read. I worked out the culprit
Another great book by Gillian Jackson, the continuation of the story of Detective Samantha Freeman has us starting from the moment when the last book ended, right where her fiancée Ravi is killed in a car accident, the only way for Samantha to start healing is going back to work and engrossed herself in a new case, and what a case this one is, her victim’s life has more layers than an onion and is a complete different person than what she portrayed herself to be.This book was a fast read with a plot that grabs you from beginning to end. It has many twists and turns with unexpected findings throughout the story. It definitely is one of the best Gillian Jackson’s books.
This is a story full of secrets that will eventually be found out but along the way there are twists and turns that make the pages worth turning to find out whodunnit. Great characters and nice pace to the plot. I voluntarily reviewed an advance readers copy of this book.
