In the latest installment in the beloved Shady Hollow series, everyone's favorite vulpine investigator Vera Vixen must contend with a cold-hearted killer--and the ghost of her own past.
It's a crisp, cool autumn in Shady Hollow, and preparations are underway for the annual Harvest Festival. Creatures have flocked from far and wide to partake in the seasonal festivities, from pumpkin carving to pie tasting to soup throwing. With all these new faces around town, it's the perfect time for someone to slip in unnoticed.
Unless that someone is Bradley Marvel, the most famous author--and most noticeable personality--in any woodland warren. It seems the wolf is on the lam. Back in the city, a body was found in his penthouse apartment at Mockingbird Court, and Marvel skipped town before the questioning could commence.
Marvel claims to be innocent, and it's up to Vera and her friends to piece together what might have happened that fateful night so many miles away in the beating heart of the big city. But things get complicated when Vera learns that she also knows the victim ... and might even be implicated herself.

Another winner in this series. Can’t wait for the next one!The harvest festival sounds amazing, I want to attend.
I always enjoy a visit to Shady Hollow. This one being themed during the harvest festival with pumpkins and fall themed celebration made it even better. Having the characters being creatures makes us an amazing escape every time I pick up a new book and read it. A solid mystery each and every time. I’ve yet to be disappointed by a single entry. They’re all really good!
'Mockingbird Court' brings the Shady Hollow series to a close with a story that feels both familiar and fresh. Readers finally learn the truth about Vera’s mysterious past in the city and how it intertwines with the present-day case. Bradley Marvel also returns as a pesky yet entertaining antagonist, adding a humorous layer of tension without stealing focus from Vera’s story.I was glad to see more of Orville after 'Summer’s End' focused on Vera and Lenore’s friendship. This book steps slightly outside the usual cozy feel, trading some of the small-town charm for grittier moments tied to the big city. Even so, I appreciated the mix of mystery and personal reflection. The Harvest Festival backdrop adds warmth, though I would have loved more description of the town’s gathering. As the series finale, it wraps up Vera’s story well, even if I was not quite ready to say goodbye to Shady Hollow. I will miss these woodland characters and the sense of community that makes this series stand out. If the authors ever write another mystery, perhaps one where Vera helps Esme and her beau, I would happily return to this world. For now, I look forward to whatever this writing duo creates nextSpecial thanks to Vintage and NetGalley for this ARC. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.
Have you ever felt a little sad when starting the latest book in a beloved series? Raises hand. It was announced early on that Mockingbird Court would be the final book in the Shady Hollow collection—a series I’ve grown to adore for its cozy charm, whimsical storytelling, and light-hearted themes. Every adventure left me with that perfect feel-good vibe.Autumn has arrived in Shady Hollow, and preparations for the annual Harvest Festival are in full swing. Vera Vixen, our favorite reporter from the Shady Hollow Herald, has just returned from a crucial assignment in the city when she's surprised by an unexpected visitor—Bradley Marvel, a renowned author and old friend. He’s in trouble!A dead body has been discovered in his apartment, and he’s desperate for Vera’s help, insisting he’s innocent.Vera soon discovers she has a connection to the victim, turning her world completely upside down. When a detective from the city arrives, accusations and gossip begin to swirl around her. Now, it’s up to Vera to clear her name—and uncover whether Bradley Marvel is really the one responsible. Will Vera uncover that the story runs far deeper than anyone ever imagined?I love that this book offers a glimpse into Vera’s backstory. Returning readers will enjoy the familiar banter between characters, along with heartfelt themes of small-town dynamics, friendship, loyalty, and the bonds of found family.I’m sure I’ll return to this series again and again, and hope Shady Hollow isn’t gone for good.
