Moon Rising (Wings of Fire #6)

I’ve been reading these books for a while. The series is amazing and this book was no exception. I can relate to moon in a lot of ways. And I like how it still kind of continues the original dragonets’ adventures because Moon reads their minds and you can tell what they’re thinking.

I was a little concerned, after how much my son and I loved the original Wings of Fire books, that this follow-up series would be a disappointment. Not so, it gets right off to an amazing start. Already love and care for the new group of dragonets, and of course you still get to check in with our friends Clay, Tsunami, Glory, Starflight, Sunny & Peril. These books have gotten me and my son (almost 6) through this pandemic... Not that it's over yet. We are on book 11 now, and loving them!

This was a very interesting perspective to see and I love how the other dragon’s minds reflect their tribe, personality, and personal history so well. Its also great to keep their thought processes from this book in mind in future books and see the deeper side to their surface thoughts. A mind isn’t just thoughts you can easily reach in and grab, it’s more complicated than that, and this book does a great job of showing it. I re-read this and was still surprised at the outcome of some events. It is unpredictable yet makes complete sense when you think back on it, and sets the stage excellently for the storyline that continues in the next books.

This is a favorite series of our 9-year-old boy who loves dragons. For him dragons must never be like they are in King Arthur type stories where they are the enemy to be slain or feared. In these books dragons are the main characters both bad and good. The six main characters age throughout the series gradually getting to more intense activities. Please note that the death of a child dragon it's within the first chapters of the first book so there are some intense themes that may bother sensitive children. I also find these stories to be a great adventure to listen to by audiobook.

I love Wings of Fire so much!! I just got this book because I felt like re-reading it. It was really good and descriptive, but it was kind of boring. Nothing happened. Just Moon in school doing random stuff, nothing special. No suspense.Something I noticed is that when Moon asked Darkstalker "Who taught you?" after he taught her some mind-reading tricks, and Darkstalker said "My father." But, it is later revealed that Darkstalker's father was an IceWing, who knew nothing of mind reading powers, and, he hated him.One thing I don't really like is that Moon really has it all. She has long-lost powers, many friends, and makes everyone think she saved the world in the 10th book, even though she did NOTHING except talk to Darkstalker in her head. NOTHING! Anemone and Kinkajou did most of it, and they get NO CREDIT. Moon doesn't really even do anything helpful with her powers, like stopping the explosion, and keeping it a secret from her best friends. She complains about her headaches and the pressure of freeing Darkstalker all weighing down on her, but really, no one cares. Other dragons, like Anemone, should get some credit too. I think Tui T Sutherland should focus more on like, Carnelian (who loyally serves her queen and thinks that herself is stupid and only gets seen as someone grumpy) and Tamarin (who gets underestimated because of blindness but is actually smart), who've actually suffered through things.I know i sound really critical and harsh, but overall it was agreat book and i recommend it!I sound harsh

One of our younger readers LOVES this series. This is the sixth part of the story and with the war over, there is a new school and a new dragonet that takes center stage. If your kiddos enjoy the Warriors series or any sort of fantasy reading, they will love Sutherland's Wings of Fire series. These are probably better suited for the later elementary years as the dragons do commit murder and the humans in the story are mere pillagers that are seen as simple snacks by some dragons. Nothing is too graphic or too violent, but those more sinister elements are involved in the story and could be too scary for a first or second grader.

Ever have a child that simply hates to read? I have one like that. Because he doesn't ever read for enjoyment, and doesn't enjoy it enough to try when he has to read for school, he struggles with spelling, language, and so many other things.My son was given book 1 of the Wings of Fire series for Christmas last year. He wasn't interested in reading it, but finally relented when he had a book report due. After all, it was about dragons, it has to better than other books he's read, right? He LOVED it! He loved it so much that he read it a second time, used hard earned money to buy books 1-5. After reading those, he just had to have number 6. He read it in 2 days.I am so thankful to have finally found a way to get him to read. He is doing better in school since starting to read too.

The next chapter in an amazing and engaging series. My daughter loves this series so much. She has re-read the books so much they have started to physically fall apart so I have begun to get hardback editions for her instead.The book arrived as promised and well packaged. The binding is tight and solid.I did not read it my self but will ask my daughter about it for purposes of this review.(NOTE: she read it cover to cover in one day)I asked her to tell me about the book and translated for purposes of this review.Moon Rising introduces powers not seen in one of the dragon tribes for generations and it leads to a great adventure. It introduces several new characters, a new prophecy, and an amazing story full of adventure, secrets, and danger.The dragon tribes are at peace at last but in the shadows, hidden from all eyes a mysterious dragon awaits and he could lead to great destruction or a great future.Just like in the other books there are unexpected twists and turns which make this series so much fun to read.I really like this book. I think you will really like it and should read all of the Wings of Fire books.I read them so fast and can't wait for the next book to come out.

My Thoughts: To be honest, my brother wasn't a big fan of the new books in the Wings of Fire series (Winter Turning, Moon Rising, etc). However, I really enjoy them, although I miss some older characters like Tsunami (who still is in the book for a couple scenes) and Sunny. Glory is in this series a lot more, being the queen of the Rain and NightWings.Moonwatcher (aka Moon) is an amazing character - everything was spot on and fit her perfectly. Quiet, intrigued, curious, wary, friendly - so many things rolled into one, yet they all came together to make Moon, Moon. Winter, Qibli, and Carnelian fascinated me. Plus, it was really interesting seeing Moon's perspective on their thoughts, and how she reacts to them in their sort-of friendship. Kinkajou, as always, was awesome :), as were all the other old characters.I can't go on enough about this writing - easy, speculative, more in the back of your mind so that you focus on the story, making this book devoid of dullness. Sutherland does a very good job of making me want to know more - the mystery is always something I look forward to in this series. The author eases you into it, giving away little clues at a time until you realize what happened, either a split second before or after the characters in the book. Either way, this technique makes you cheer for Moon and her friends during the fire/explosion scene (also with the Icicle scene and Starflight).Of course, I HAVE to add in a part about Darkstalker. DARKSTALKER. Ugh! I can't tell what's up with him - why are you doing this to me, Tui T. Sutherland? The worst part is that Darkstalker isn't in the book that much in Winter Turning, leaving us on a sort-of cliffhanger. At times, Darkstalker seems kind, funny - similar to Deathbringer - but others, you can tell he's lying to Moon. He seems manipulative, yet at the same time, caring - but then you wonder, is he just caring about Moon because she's the only one that can free him?Overall, I just love this series, and can't wait to read more!

Ohmygosh I love this book! New prophecy! New school! New dragonets! New mysteries! New adventures! NEW NIGHTWINGS WITH POWERS!!😆 Moon Rising is so epically awesome. I had to stay up all night to read it. Twice. Moonwatcher is so cute and shy, but then I like how she becomes so much more brave and awesome toward the end. And am I going crazy, or is Winter in love with Moon?!For all of you who have not read the book yet, it starts with a NightWing dragonet hatching under two full moons. That dragonet is Moonwatcher, and she can read minds and has the gift of prophecy. The previous 'dragonets of destiny' (Sunny, Starflight, Tsunami, and Clay) have started a school underneath Jade Mountain. Moon is one of the dragons that has been accepted as a student there, and she is really quiet and secretive and shy and can read minds and is slightly adorable. In her first day there, she hears something new; a dragon who can speak back to her. However, he is only in her mind, not at the school, and he is actually a five thousand year old animus dragon. Moon begins to make friends at the school, all the while learning more about the Darkstalker, a.k.a. the mysterious animus who speaks to Moon. She learns that there is a student who is conspiring with QUEEN SCARLET and is planning a murder. A few days later, Moon gets a vision of the history cave exploding and her friends dying. She barely manages to convince them not to go in the cave, but in the explosion, 2 dragons still die, and those who didn't are very suspicious of how she knew. She finally tells them about her powers, and they get mad at her and freaked out and worried and storm off in a huff. One of those friends, Qibli, (yes, Thorn's 'guard') forgives her and tells her she should use her powers to find the dragon who set the fire.I can't tell anymore without revealing every single secret I'm the entire book

This book starts a new storyline in the Wings of Fire series. It was a very good book in this series and I really enjoyed all of the new dragonets that we meet. My eight year old son continues to be a huge fan of this series and I have also started to enjoy the books quite a bit. The next book, Winter Turning, is scheduled to release in June 2015.The Dragonets of Prophecy have started a new school on Jade Mountain. Their goal is to get all the dragonets of the different tribes to co-exist and start getting used to being together instead of at war. It’s a noble goal...but it’s not without issues. One of the new NightWings, Moonwatcher, is the first NightWing in a long time with the ability to read minds and predict the future. However she has been warned time and time again to hide her power. However, when Moon starts to hear thoughts that involve treachery at Jade Mountain she feels compelled to act before someone on is killed.This was a fun continuation of the Wings of Fire series. All of the dragons from earlier in the series are in this book as well, but they are given background roles and are older. Instead we are meeting the next generation of dragonets.I loved Moon as a character, she is very new and nervous about starting at a new school. However, she can also be brave when she wants and always tries to do what she feels is right. All of the dragonets have distinct personalities and are easy to keep track of, even though there are quite a few new faces.There is a lot of action and some mystery in this book. I think middle grade readers will enjoy this alot. This continues to be a series that I think kids will enjoy more than adults. However, it has really grown on me and I enjoy reading these books. They are quick and entertaining reads that are well written. This book also deals with dragons starting a brand new school, which I think a lot of kids will relate to well.Overall this was an entertaining fantasy read that starts a new story arc in the Wings of Fire series. We meet many new interesting dragons and learn a lot more about the NightWings’ powers and history. I would definitely recommend to fans of the Wings of Fire series and to middle grade fantasy fans.
