The Noise: A Thriller

Very different yet engaging for books by Mr Patterson. IMO. Good read with hard to put down. I think it's worth reading

Loved it. It was really creepy. But in a good way if that makes sense. I enjoyed it from page 1.

Too many people, too many plot lines . I don,t think I would buy another book by this author. This had to be written by J D Barker

This book is about the scariest I've read because of what could happen. We all know that most of the concepts on the cartoon Jet sons have almost all come true. Heaven forbid that the scenario in this book ever comes true. Read the book...you will understand.

I know there are differences of options here of this book. I loved it!! It's totally different than any other apocalypse book I have read and this one is more modern. Don't let anyone sway you from reading it, form your own opinion, you might enjoy it as much as I have. You do have 2 amazing authors writing it, how bad could it be?!

I stuck with this book in hopes I’d come to enjoy it! That never happened. It just wasn’t my taste and not what I would expect from Patterson!

This is not my regular reading genre, but definitely a 5 star thriller. It's a well put together story line which will lead the reader to push on to the next chapter, to search out the responsible party for each exciting action as the plot gets thicker. thank you

If I had known what the book was about,I wouldn't have read it. It is not the type of book I enjoy reading. Hopefully something that can never happen to any of us. Yes, I did finish it but will never reread it or read anything by the co author?. It's hard to know who writes what when. There are two authors,but I repeat it is not typical of James Patterson.

I would have given 'The Noise' four stars because the writing was good, but to much of the story was just left hanging. The ending felt rushed and was terribly unsatisfying. I didn't think the characters were well defined. I don't know if there is a sequel, but if so, I'm not interested.

I never read King's books because they are too scary. You have surpassed him by miles. This is so riveting I couldn't put it down but I was also horrified and wanted to stop reading. Do you have nightmares that jolt you out of a deep sleep? Don't let anyone make this into a movie.I'll still read your books because I usually enjoy your books but I will go slow just in case for awhile.

I was so excited to see a collaboration between two of my favorite authors. So I had to add this one to my TBR list when I saw it. It started strong and pulled me in quickly. It was action-packed from start to finish. However, the ending was strange for me. Also, I never really connected with any of the characters. Bummer. I still love both authors though.

This book took me by surprise fairly early into the reading of it. Is this science fiction, time travel, horror? After completely reading it I still am not sure what genre it is. A bit frightening, a bit horrifying, a little amusing (I’m not sure why I say that), and overall intriguing. I am not likely to ever read it again, and I’m not likely to forget it in whole as well as in part.

Can anyone explain the ending of this book?Someone once said:” if the beginning and the ending of a novel are good, everything boring in between can be forgiven and eventually forgotten.“ I sincerely hate to write a negative review but I have to say after a strong beginning followed by repetitive story lines was an ending that completely baffled me! I reread it three times and still cannot figure out what the heck it all meant. I can usually forgive a novel that’s boring so long as the ending is a surprise and strong. For me, without a terrific ending, any book is a waste of my time. So it is with this in mind, that I Felt compelled to warn future readers who feel like I do, that this book might leave you scratching your head when all is said and done. For the record, I have enjoyed many James Patterson books. For a while, this one reminded me of the much better Book “Cell” by Stephen King. That is, until it fell apart completely 2/3 of the way through. By the way, What happened to Zeke the dog?Also: In an early part of the story, the Roman Catholic cardinal Of New York City appears {SPOILER ALERT} on Air Force One with the president leading the reader to believe we might be heading into “The Exorcist” Territory but after this character is introduced we never hear from him again! Did the authors forget about him?

I do not review books generally especially James Patterson books because I love his books, but I just had to for this one, I have to say it was the strangest story line I have ever read and I read a lot, this is not my genre but it sucked me in to continue to read it to the end. If you like science fiction you will like it.

Such a unique story told by the great Patterson and one of my favorite authors, Barker.This is one of those books where I wasn't sure if I was going to like it, but at the same time I couldn't put it down. These authors kept me asking all the questions and needing all the answers.I was engaged from the start. Unique characters. Unique plot. Great follow-through from start to finish. Well, almost finish. I had a tough time with the ending. Although, there weren't many ways the book could end, I just wasn't feeling the ending. It was too far fetched and abrupt for my liking.All in all, I really enjoyed this book. I don't say that often with books more on the sci-fi side. In fact, I'm not big on the sci-fi to begin with.

I'd give this 0 stars if I could. The premise of the book was good, but failed in the hands of these co-authors.I find it hard to believe any editing or background research were done for this book. It's pretty insulting if they really believe this is all their readers deserve. If you are going to write a book with heavy referencing of science and medicine, respect the reader enough to get basic facts straight - I am talking about stuff you'd learn in high school biology. The same goes for plot elements involving the military.Character development was almost non-existent. The 'heroine' Martha appears to be written by male authors who got their ideas of how a strong, intelligent woman would speak and act from comic books. So instead of an outspoken physician who's committed to her Hippocratic oath, we get a sulky, simple-minded, pre-adolescent personality. Other characters were either flat or sparsely described, often in very stereotypical ways. The 'bad guys' are really cringe-inducing.I'm a big fan of the thriller and horror genres, but started skimming this book at about the 50% point. It could have done with around 200 pages less, as it tended to drone on and on with details that did nothing to unify the choppy plot or resolve the several inconsistencies and gaps.The ending was meant to be dark, I suppose, and could have provided a satisfying jolt, but instead was abrupt and honestly pretty silly - which isn't a word you hope to apply to a 'thriller'. I was left with the impression that the authors tripped over themselves to the point where they just couldn't sort out another way to conclude the story so they just sort of tacked the ending on because they hoped to shock us. Sorry, guys. Nothing shocking here. This whole thing was just pretty boring. As soon as I post this review I am going to see if I still have time to return this book - I am sorry I bought it. I hope that this review can save a few of you from making the same mistake.

I have looked at the other comments from the reviewers before buying this book. Since I am not an author I feel strange offering criticism, however, I will. It’s okay. I wouldn’t call it astounding, amazing, or in the class of "can’t put it down" reading material. The 420 pages could have been reduced to 300 without loosing the pace or "impact" of the story line. Before reading this book, I read "Billy Summer". Save your money and pass on "Noise" if you had to choose between the two.

Yes, I pride myself in my love of books and reading. For example I have been reading SK from Bangor, Maine since I was 15 years old. My daughter is an avid reader after me.Kiss the Girls, Along Came...all the big JP titles, years ago, but only recently had i picked back up a JP book (2 years as a receptionist has u going thru your reading list quite quickly)I started with The President is Missing, then the Presidents Daughter, and now, The Noise.This book was so exciting and it first I didn't like the direction it was going,, I thought , toward I guess you could say the spiritual realm? Very sneaky, Mr. Patterson indeed. I won't produce any spoilers here...very clever, creative, and heart! I loved the ending, not the death or tragedy to humanity, how some justice does come. Offers a lot to think about and take heed. Are our lives a bit full of stuff we don't even need?

Their dad drops them into a storm cellar. The sound only gets worse.I'll start by saying I LOVE JD Barker. His 4MK Thriller 3-book series were all 5 star reads for me (The Fourth Monkey, the Fifth to Die and the Sixth Wicked Child). His newest standalone book, The Caller's Games ('21) was also a 5-star read. His first collaboration with James Patterson, The Coast-to-Coast Murders was a 4 star read and I'm hoping for a sequel in this series. This book starts as a "slow burn"; just enough intrigue to be eerie and tense at the same time. I think the book went on about 100 pages too long. It was very repetitive. Overall it felt like a sci-fi plot which I personally don't like. Well done writing but if there's a book 2, I will not be reading. I gave this book a generous 3 Stars.
