Oathbound

5 freaking stars!!! TRACY MY GOAT 🏆she went above and beyond with telling this story. The growth Bree experiences, the unique twists on tropes, the multiple perspectives!?!? Like I was eating GOOD!!No but really seeing Bree become more mature, more self assured, and just as stubborn was like watching my fictional little sister grow up right in front of my eyes. This Bree is so much stronger than Bree in Bloodmarked and she earns that on her own merit! You can truly see the deep love Tracy has for Bree.The multiple povs were so good. The way Tracy weaved them all together to not only push the story forward but show us what was happening in other areas of characters who were worried about Bree's safety and doing anything they could to find her. I had some hard sobs from some povs LOL but also I'm a big baby and I just love this found family sooo much. Like this is FAMILY!!!The romance was excellent!! Yearners!!!The world building and expansion was soooo good in this book and Bree being able to explore with 2 new characters was so great to see. And to see her hanging out with black teens close to her age!! Uh I loved that so much and their scenes were sooo entertaining.We got some povs from a character I've been so excited to hear from and it did not disappoint. I loved finally hearing more from this character and it was definitely satisfying.And the rootcrafter community played such a bigger role in this book and I get teary eyed at just how much Bree will not let injustice happen no matter what!! She is going to find a way or burn a hole through a wall and make one herself.There's still some issues and conflicts that need to be resolved so can't wait to see that in the next book.Oathbound was Bree's emotional recharge and mental strengthening book after getting wrung out in book 1 and book 2. I have so many emotions about this book and it has left such an impression on me.Overall this was totally worth the 2 year wait and Tracy was COOKING in this book!! Her writing is so precise and so poetic at times. Uuuhh I've already been rereading scenes and chapters. I have a little over 300 highlights like this isn't a game to me actually. Like this story is so fun to me.I'm so excited to see how this series wraps up and I know Bree will always be in the best hands with Tracy and I trust her fully to tell the best finale!

Legendborn had me hooked.Bloodmarked had me craving more.Oathbound had me annoyed and hoping for a conclusion with the fourth book that makes up for how clunky this offering was.So why the vast change of heart? Oathbound to me felt like a book written entirely by a different author, which I recently found out Deonn had a cowriter in Olivie Blake which totally makes sense now and it shows.The constant POV and timeline changes weren't necessary and made it very confusing and occasionally hard to follow. As the kids today would say, you're doing too much, bruh! It came off as repetitive as well and honestly a good portion of this book could have been cut out and it would have worked all the same, if not better. For as long as this book was, it felt rushed if that makes any sense.I both listened to the audiobook and read along simultaneously for the most part and while I thought I was going to like the different voice actors doing different parts/chapters, it fell flat for me and was just not that great. One of the other females, not Joniece Abbott-Pratt who is the main narrator, is rough when she's attempting to do Lark and his Scottish accent. He sounded almost Swedish when she spoke as him.Also some of the narrators pronounced the Welsh words in the way that they should be, and others pronounced them as if they were just phonetically reading them on the page. It was a little bit annoying that the continuity didn't match up.The last quarter of the book where it's mostly focused back on Bree is where things flipped back around and felt like Tracy Deonn was "driving the bus" again. That portion felt familiar to me and felt like what I fell in love with about the first two books, especially the twist at the end.With that all being said, if the first book had been written as clunky as this one I probably wouldn't have continued the series. I'm hoping that she takes her time and puts in the same thoughtfulness with the final installment that she did with the first two books to give us an ending we truly deserve and doesn't without the help of a coauthor.

I loved this book!!! I couldn’t put it down and can’t wait for the next one to come out. I lost myself in the fantasy world and couldn’t get out. Some characters that I thought I was going to hate….ended up loving! Highly recommend!

Intrigue, magick, love,loss and twists and turns. A great third book in the Legendborn Cycle. Now I have to wait for book 4 to eventually come!!

Love the whole series

Ummm, ok, I really did struggle with this one. I landed on a 4 star because while I enjoyed the first 2 books, this one made me roll my eyes the most. This book was unnecessarily long. Also, I didn't know Bree could be even more annoying, but it was possible.I have to say this trilogy was so unexpected, in such a good way. The premise, the history, fantasy, and love on so many levels is right up my alley. I especially loved reading about a girl that looks like me. I wish I had these books in high school. However. I did have a hard time reading book 3.1. Bree (Insert long sigh here). I can give her grace because she's a teen, but the level of recklessness was too much in book 3. I rolled my eyes way too much. She was like a bull in a China shop! I also understand the events took place over a 6 month period, give or take. She had been through a lot. I lost my mom when I was 27 and I couldn't imagine having my life turned up side down by dark creatures, magic, and an ancient secret society. Yet, it was so painful to read her being ridiculous for no reason. I guess my 39 year old mind couldn't take it lol!2. The long plot. Wtf! The book did not need to be 645, or whatever pages! Why? Way too much filler! I can't stand when authors feel the need to do this. You have a great story and you're a brilliant writer, you don't need to spend pages describing how attractive someone is, over and over again!3. This follows from # 2. Why did you have to constantly spend time talking about Nick and Bree hooking up? Or how attractive Nick is? Also, they're teens, and yet, they're talking like adults when it comes to sex. Look, I'm not a prude. I was a teen once and I remember being hormonal, heck, I still am lol! But, it was ridiculous here. I found myself skipping over soooo much when they were at Penumbria, because it became dumb. I get that she was rediscovering him, but dang! Not everything is about looks and attraction, even as a teen. It got to the point where it made no sense to include it. It also made me not care. I enjoyed their connection at the beginning, but this made me forget why they got together in the first place.4. Again, I skipped forward. This felt like watching a movie and getting so annoyed, that I fast forward certain parts to: not waste time and to stay focused.5. The ending. Ummm, what was that? Lol! If you removed the filler, you could've had more story and not just ended it there. Super fizzled out.Finally, even with all my frustration, I still loved the series. Book 3 isn't my fav., but I'm so happy I discovered it. Tracy is a great writer. I felt the culture and could relate to the history. It was wonderful to read a story where a black girl could be strong and vulnerable, while also being surrounded by so much love and protection.

Everyone stop what you’re doing and read this series.

Ms. Deonn has done it again, except this third installment is as good as, if not better than the first (a rarity for both books and movies). Wow. I just finished and my heart is still pounding. I cannot wait for the next one!

Once again another excellent read. I can’t wait until the next installment! Tracy Deonn doesn’t disappoint. Make sure to read the series in order.

If you haven’t read Lengendborn or Bloodmarked yet, this book is the reason to read them asap! Absolutely brilliant book!

I can not believe this book just ended this way! I seriously thought this was the final installment in this series. And now we have to wait how long for the next?So, considering that Selwyn is one of my fave characters, I'm thoroughly unhappy. There had better be some type of redemption here. And I do hope we haven't seen the last of Zoe and Jah.I'm still reeling from this absolutely insane cliffhanger of an ending. Need time.

Tracy is such a great writer , so much so i think i may need to side eye her I real life.You know an actor that played their role so well that now folks just don’t like them?Tracy is good!Haha book so good I didn’t realize I left a review! Read it!

I love this series so much! Tracy Deonn keeps finding ways to top herself! Not only does Bree continue to be a badass but in Oathbound we get to see how badass others can be! I love that we get some additional POV in this one! Tracy hooks you in and takes you on a thrill ride the entire time, dropping bombs until the very end!!! A need book four now! I loved checking back in with Bree and her friends and family as well as some new additions that I enjoyed a lot, loved Zoe!! I can’t lie darker Sel is also a delight! Can’t wait to see what in store for him! And Alice… my heart breaks for her! This series just gets better and better!

I didn’t fully know what to expect going into this book but it literally gave me exactly what I needed at every turn. I was basically going between screaming and kicking my feet for the entire last 50% of the book.The magic systems are so unique, difficult topics are handled in such a caring/careful manner, and the characters are unreal. There were so many moments in the dialogue between characters where I was like wow she nailed that, spot on. It almost felt nostalgic even reading it for the first time, an instant classic for me.If you like YA fantasy you REALLY should move these up your list I cannot stress this enough!!

Why do I hate this book. Oh it’s my own fault for not properly looking into the series before starting it. Thinking I was jumping into a trilogy as the last book comes out… ONLY TO BE LEFT WITH THE BIGGEST CLIFFHANGER EVER!!!!But for real this book was such a ride. The growth Bree has in this book is felt deep. She takes impossible risks for the greater good. Can we vote Bree for president? Cause she is definitely the king they deserve and definitely a president I’d love to have even at 17. The cliffhanger was something I thought a while ago but as I continued to power through the books I just blew it off as it couldn’t be but now I’m kicking myself and I’m gonna go pout in a corner knowing I have to wait until the next book.

I wish I had this book growing up. Stories of our beautiful, smart, natural, powerful, and melanated sisters coming from all spiritual walks of life to support each other. Of the “white” characters owning and correcting the faults of their ancestors. All while keeping the pace with modern times and revelations. This started as a read between my teenager and myself with Legendborn for the time she was away during the summer and I continued for the ride in the next two books. Tracy is a wonderful story teller with depth and richness. The way she has choosen to describe the details of appearance or moods or thoughts of characters is impeccable. So good, IT’S GREAT!

4.5 ⭐️This series is soooo very well written!! The stakes go high and the twists give me some crazy mental whiplash!I absolutely enjoyed this book but the middle did kind of drag a bit for me and Bree seemed a bit too… gullible? in a couple of parts. It just didn’t seem to fit with her character, in my opinion. It might have been intentionally written that way but, to me, it felt like the *only* thing that didn’t fit her character in the whole situation so 🤷🏻‍♀️ (and it’s almost 1 AM so idk if that even makes sense 😅)Overall, though, this was a fabulous read and I’m sooooo excited for book 4!! This cliffhanger has me REELING!! WHAT!!???

The way I consumed this book with a quickness… anyone who knows me knows I have never shut up about this series since I read book 1 back in 2022. Endless yapping.I didn’t know what to expect from Oathbound and even without concrete expectations, this book brew it all out of the water. Oh my god, what a book. I was stressed, I got teary eyes and even cried a few times, and did I mention that this book stressed me out?I was pleasantly surprised by two of the POVs included in this book, one of which I have been hoping for since Legendborn. I thoroughly enjoyed some of the new characters and reoccurring side characters. I loved seeing how Bree grows as a character despite some issues she’s forced to deal with at the start of the book. And finally but not least, I loved just how much Bree is loved by the characters that matter to her in this book, she is loved in such a way that it comes off in waves from the books and makes you, the reader, feel like you’re being wrapped in that blanket of care.I have no idea how the finale for the series will go. I’m honestly still trying to process everything that happened to the point where I kind of want to reread already. Mrs. Tracy really did her big one with this book and I can’t wait to see how she wraps it all up in book 4!
