A week at a beautiful chateau in the south of France--it should be a straightforward final job for Dora. She's a smart, stunning and discreet escort, and Daniel has paid for her services before. This time, all she has to do is to convince the assembled guests that she is his girlfriend. Dora is used to playing roles and being whatever men want her to be. It's all about putting on a front.
One last chance
It will be a last, luxurious look at how the other half lives before Dora turns her back on the escort world and all its dangers. She has found someone she loves and trusts. With him, she can escape the life she's trapped in. But when Dora arrives at the chateau, it quickly becomes obvious that nothing is what it seems...

One Last Secret starts off with a lot of promise, offering very thorough and engaging character development for both Dora and Evan. Unfortunately, this turns into a big problem later in the book when we keep getting more and more backstory for Dora that does not add any value to the present storyline. The narrative relies entirely too much on Dora’s internal thoughts and monologue rather than dynamic dialogue, causing the plot to really start to drag. When it comes to the plot, there are a few twists in the second half of the book, but only one is genuinely surprising. While I didn't see the others coming, they felt like they came completely out of nowhere but not in a good way.As a quick note for prospective readers: there is a very heavy focus on sex work and sex throughout the book. While it isn't overly explicit, it is a constant topic of conversation, so if that isn't your preference, this is definitely one to skip. Finally, the epilogue leaves something to be desired. While it is easy to understand the thematic significance it is meant to have on the rest of the story, logically, it just doesn't make sense. It requires too much suspension of disbelief to accept that things could play out the way they did without people finding out. Overall, while the initial character building is strong, the pacing issues and unearned twists make this one tough to get through.
Yes... twists and turns. But, not believable. My wife and I listened to the CD version and actually made it to the end hoping something would smell good. It was 13.75 hours of "really?". I suppose we were supposed to be sympathetic to Dora; but... No. The other characters were unlikeable as well - for various reasons. We liked the author's 2025 book better.
This book was one I just stumbled upon and am glad I did. It peeked my interest from the start.
I really liked the authors writing style. I got to know the character and her whole background, the good and the ugly. There was just a ton of white noise, unnecessary sections that seemed to go on and on. It felt like the writer would go off topic a bit and then return, at one point the character even goes off topic and another character calls her out on it. I would really like to try another one of the authors books bc the plot was great and twisty and made you feel like you were in on a secret in the end. I just need a break for now.
This author is one of the best at weaving truly complicated, yet airtight, plot. I absolutely loved this book! I totally slacked at work for a full day because I was so invested .
