This #1 New York Times bestseller is a highly addicting enemies-to-lovers Romantasy with razor-sharp banter, heart-stopping action, and blistering hot romance.
Do not touch the sword. Do not turn the key. Do not open the gate.
Twenty-four-year-old Saeris Fane is good at keeping secrets. No one knows about the strange powers she possesses, or the fact that she has been picking pockets and stealing from the Undying Queen's reservoirs for as long as she can remember. In the land of the unforgiving desert, there isn't much a girl wouldn't do for a glass of water. But a secret is like a knot. Sooner or later, it is bound to come undone.
When Saeris comes face-to-face with Death himself, she inadvertently reopens a gateway between realms and is transported to a land of ice and snow. The Fae have always been the stuff of myth, of legend, of nightmares...but it turns out they're real, and Saeris has landed right in the middle of a centuries-long conflict that might just get her killed.
The first of her kind to tread the frozen mountains of Yvelia in over a thousand years, Saeris mistakenly binds herself to Kingfisher, a handsome Fae warrior, who has secrets and nefarious agendas of his own. He will use her Alchemist's magic to protect his people, no matter what it costs him... or her. Death has a name. It is Kingfisher of the Ajun Gate. His past is murky. His attitude stinks. And he's the only way Saeris is going to make it home.
Be careful of the deals you make, dear child. The devil is in the details... Now with an embossed cover, silver foiling, and an updated interior design.

The writing: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️Buying the physical book from Amazon: ⭐️The writing of this book is AMAZING!!! I read it on my Kindle and listened to the audio, 5⭐️! Great fantasy story. I ordered the physical book and received a damaged book. The box has no packing material in it which caused bent corners. The cover has weird stains over it. I got a replacement book, and it too had the weird discolored cover, that look like it had stains all over. Such a bummer! Read the book, just be weary about buying the new hardback book from Amazon.
I finally read this book, and it was amazing. I either like a hyped book or I don't, and this one I absolutely love.Kingfisher embodies a tortured hero, and it's one of my favorite things I look for in an MMC. Saeris has become a favorite FMC because she is reckless, selfless, and an overall badass. I loved all the side characters as well and the found family aspect that is forming here. Also, Carrion Swift has become a pleasant surprise. I can't wait to read more of him.Overall, this was a great start to a new romantasy series that not only had a great romance between characters but an incredible and original plot. Highly recommend!🖤
Why did I wait so long to read this. TOP BOOK OF THE YEAR. am so upset with myself for putting this off for so long. I immediately understand the obsession. Saeris is an SASSY BADGIRL FMC. I adore how badass she is, she's strong on her own. Her point of view is clear, her motives feel so relatable, and her internal monologue is what my brain sounds like. Kingfisher. DAMN. Shadow DADDY. I loved everything about this man. Where can I get one? I am desperate for him. He is the perfect amount of moody & grumpy & so sweet in his weird little way.The slow burn - perfection. I was cackling, giddy and kicking my feet. As a couple, they are pretty rock solid in termsCarrion Swift. He is probably the funniest side character I have enjoyed this year. LOVED HIM. Total Ridoc from Fourth Wing vibes, Carrion is absolutely ridiculous and raunchy. Truly, I would read a book about him immediately. The magic system was incredibly interesting and the plot was fast paced and locked me in. For its size, there weren't moments that felt like a lull, something was ALWAYS happening. That, coupled with a jaw dropping last 100 pages, made this an easy 5 star. The descriptions of the Gods and their powers made me feel like I was 13 again and obsessing over Greek God lore. One of my favorite romantasy books of the year easily. November cannot come soon enough for book 2.
Slow start for me. I kind of hated the whole “fisher is such a jerk I totally want to bang him” mentality that Saeris had. I liked fisher and could tell he was a complex character with more to it than just being a jerk, but Saeris didn’t seem to care about what else there was too him and still wanted to get frisky. It kind of felt like the author was really forcing enemies to lovers.Once he came clean though I started to like it better. Still though, the romance part lacked for me. It was like instant hate to instant love.Loved the world and world building. It was super interesting and all the little twists and turns and connections were really well played out which made it fun to read! I was even surprised by a few of the twists and usually I’m not one to be shocked by a plot twist.
This book contains everything you want in a Romantasy🖤Shadow daddy🖤Found Family🖤Enemies to lovers🖤Fated Mates🖤Magical Tattoos🖤Badass/powerful FMCThe story is fast paced but not rushed. The world is built well but not overwhelming. The plot line at first was hard to find at first - but let’s be honest, you’re here for Kingfisher. I struggled a bit with the plot as far as where the author was going with it for the first half of the book, but it started to become clearer in the last 3/4.Kingfisher is DELECTABLE. I hated him SO much in the beginning and was about to tell the FMC to move on to another fae male, but something about him pulls you in. The spicy parts are so good and worth waiting for!Saeris is a badass but not unbelievable. She never annoyed me and I loved that she wasn’t afraid to communicate or speak her mind.Thank god this book didn’t end on a huge cliffhanger! I don’t think I could have handled it. I loved this book so much! 20/10 recommend!
