Rich Girl Nation: Taking Charge of Our Financial Futures

Years ago I read that men accumulate more wealth because women focus on saving money while shopping and paying bills and men focus on investing. That article woke me up and pushed me out of my couponing comfort zone.Rich Girl Nation is a great introduction to personal finance written for women. It’s a good listen as an audiobook. It’s a must read for any young women - especially those thinking of getting married. There is also plenty of interesting information for women at any stage of life.Katie closes the book talking about how it’s important that we also understand how our economic system works so we can advocate for change. The United States runs on the unpaid labor of women. We are the caregivers and the most likely to end our lives in poverty.This week I heard a now familiar story about a newly widowed woman who had no idea how her husband was running their finances and whose husband had not had a will. It does not have to be this way. We need to talk about these things and plan together.Katie recommends that we “bring a friend” into the discussion of personal finance. Consider yourself invited.

I loved the ease of reading this book. The amount of information that Katie gives is not only incredible, it’s actionable. I was investing in EFTs within minutes of finishing her book. I am already planning to give this as a graduation gift to my niece. We need more rich girls!

I am a big fan of the Money With Katie podcast so I had high expectations for this book. Katie did not disappoint! This is a book for women of all ages. I particularly enjoy Katie’s sense of humor as she critiques some of the cultural norms around finances. As a woman who works in the field of financial counseling, focusing my work on helping young professional women , I will recommend this book to my clients as an additional tool to help them develop a better understanding of how to plan for a solid financial future.

I've been listening to the Money With Katie show for a couple years. This book is excellent in summing up the highlights for investing women and setting up your money to work for you. This book should be revisited often and reread probably yearly !

Katie has been such an important educator for me these past few years and I was so happy she wrote a book. Her style of communicating financial literacy topics is on point for me and this book was a great overview of what she's talked about on her podcast, just in an organized and easy to follow way. Highly recommend for anyone looking to have a grip and plan on their financial life!

I just finished listening to this on audiobook. I've been listening to Katie's podcast for about a year now and this book is similar to her weekly topics in her podcast. I appreciate the honesty, transparency, and recounting of anecdotal experiences throughout her financial journey. She is incredibly articulate and has an amazing vocabulary. I also appreciate all the time she spent discussing a woman's unpaid labor. As a former high earner in Seattle who scaled back from work to focus on motherhood and household management, Katie was spot on about the effects on my future income and access to employer-sponsored retirement plans. Even though Katie doesn't have kids (yet), this book was very relatable for a 38-year-old mother in Seattle.

I thought the ideas spread out in this delightful book were valuable and pespective changing. Katie's tone and reflective thinking is found throughout this book. I thought it was valauble and practical!

“Rich Girl Nation” is relatable, informative and transformative. I have read similar personal finance books (Your Money of Your Life, The Psychology of Money, The Illusion of Money) but Katie’s book spoke my language. Her chapter on retirement tactically answered how to execute wealth strategies that I’ve only read about in dry, technical text. I feel I have a roadmap for the next 30 years of my life (I am 29 now). I also feel inspired to share my learnings with other women and have gained a greater sense of awareness for the inequities that exist in our system.Katie’s contribution to the personal finance world is timely and important. My male partner actually recommended this book to me and he’s now reading it (yes, past me was wrong and apparently there are men out there who value financial independence and encourage it. Side bar, I was amped about the unpaid labor chapter. In the middle of my railing-against-the-system-fist-pump, my partner brought me a bowl of pasta and then cleaned the entire kitchen. Progress ladies, progress.)Here ends my diatribe / profession of love for this book and Katie’s perspective.

This book continues Katie’s wit from her podcast with a nuanced look into the numerous systems that keep women without options. It’s entertaining and moves with great pace as she breaks down the issues but also the math and the plan of attack in a digestible format. She leaves no stone unturned and accounts for all “well what about….” thoughts you may have. I’ve shared the book with my network and will continue to support Katie’s important (and enjoyable) work. Thank you Katie, highly recommend.

I have listened to KGT since she first got started. I have enjoyed all her content and feel like I’ve learned so much alongside her. She does amazing research and is able to apply critical thought and analysis to various topics. I was particularly interested in the tax chapter as that is not something I have quite mastered! I absolutely LOVE this book , I especially appreciate Katie’s chapter on the beauty industrial complex and how it impacts women’s finances. So good and she’s so funny too!

Katie has created a masterpiece of PERSONAL FINANCE. The stories she chose are intimate, engaging and illustrative. It includes the best balance I have seen on any book between money psychology, finance math, labor and life-cycle economics, tax planning, and humor. This book will show you the best, state of the art, way to manage your finances without getting overly distracted in the math or capitalism rants. The book includes superb storytelling, while providing honest and accurate context for how capitalism, politics and gender tend to affect the best plans. Stop reading the reviews and jump into the book. It is short and full of wisdom!
