This was a good book
Okay, so Road to Ruin and I had a bit of a timing issue. I think I picked it up at the wrong moment in my reading mood cycle—but hey, it still pulled me in. What really stood out to me was the dystopian setting and the magic system. I also appreciated the LGBTQIA+ rep in the FMC. She’s strong, outwardly fearless, and her presence gave the story some serious backbone. Now, the love-triangle-that-might-be-a-poly-relationship situation? Whew. It had its moments, but the push-and-pull between her and the royal companions dragged on a smidge too long for my taste. And while the “closed-door” approach to intimacy is totally fine by me, the emotions felt… closed off, too, which kept me from fully connecting. That said, the dystopian setting? The enigmatic magic system? Absolutely my jam. And the ending has me ready to roll right into Flight of the Fallen.“She loved too easily, and promises were hard to keep.”Verdict: Not my top-tier favorite but definitely intriguing enough to keep me invested. Bring on book two!
"Cities have hundreds of laws, but the mana wastes know only one: survive, at any cost."I have so many conflicting thoughts about this book. I absolutely adored it (aside from the inner yearning thoughts of "I like them but I can't have them they're made for each other" blah blah) until about 70%? 80%?It felt increasingly more rushed, some things HAPPENED that I'm like WHY???, and then THAT ENDING. Seriously, NO to that ending. I refuse to read another book by you. That was an injustice to your characters.I want to dock you to two stars out of spite but I won't. Because I did enjoy the vast majority. Just...UGH. THIS TASTE IN MY MOUTH FROM THAT ENDING.
🏍️ Bookish ThoughtsImmediate 6-stars! Road to Ruin has been sitting on my TBR and I’m honestly kicking myself for not reading it sooner. This is the dystopian/post-apocalyptic sapphic fantasy of my dreams! The world building was top-tier and the magic system was cool. The pacing was chef’s kiss! It was nonstop action without feeling rushed. I never felt bored, not even for a second. This is exactly the kind of book I wish more were like.I did immersive reading for this one and absolutely loved it. The narrator nailed every character. This is easily one of my new favorites and I will not shut up about it.It did end on a cliff hanger but I’m not mad about it because the next book is already out!🛠️ What to Expect• Sapphic fantasy• Magic wasteland• Motorcycle courier• Deadly storms• Monsters• Poly romance• Found family
LOVED this book and cannot wait for the next one. The world was immersive. The magic was original and interesting. And the ending left me sad and longing to know more. Will be reading this one again soon!
