I love the Ashen series SO much and I was beyond excited to follow Hekla in this story. I’m very glad to say I absolutely loved it too! Hekla is such a fascinating character to me. She’s strong and independent, but also very guarded and affected by her past. This story centers around the Blood Axe crew after they are separated from Silla, Jonas, and Axe Eyes. Hekla, Gunnar, and Sigrún are investigating the disappearance of villagers and a mysterious mist. This kept me hooked. I slept in a few minutes of reading here and there while in a major trip because I needed to know what would happen next.The ending has me feeling all sorts of ways and I’m dying to get my hands on the next book!
I'm glad Hekla had her own book. I relate to her because I, too, am a survivor. I liked her strength and that she is her own savior. She's set boundaries to never be in that helpless position again. Smart woman!She meets someone who she might be able to trust enough to let down her guard, but is he hiding something?In the ongoing story, we finally learned about the mysterious mist with a heartbeat. It's terrifying.Hopefully, the Bloodaxe Crew will all meet up again, except Jonas. He's a moldy wank stain. There's a lot of unresolved things that need to be dealt with, so I'm pretty sure there will be at least two more books.
This series is quickly becoming an absolute favorite of mine. If you're asking yourself if you really need to read this novella as part of the Ashen series, the answer is you absolutely need to because it's fantastic!This novella lets you know what Hekla was up to in Kingdom of Claw. Demi's characters are some of the best, and the learning more about Hekla was thrilling.There's feminine rage and warrior vibes but also humor and a fun animal companion. The plot will keep you captivated, and the characters will have you wanting to devour this novella.This series has everything you could want in a fantasy romance, and I need everyone to read it! I'll be patiently waiting for book 3. Thank you to the author for review copy.
