A great read! Shari Lapena’s best book yet. Read in 2 days.
Good compulsive reading; guaranteed reliable quality read as usual
One of those books where I didn't like any of the characters so didn't feel particularly invested in the story. The ending felt rushed and overwritten, unlike the rest of the book that felt slow and disjointed. Not her best. I was relieved to finish it.
Turgid whodunnit. Bryden goes missing from her condo. There's no sign of a struggle. All of her belongings are still at home. Various characters are offered up as potential perpetrators and the narrative mostly consists of police interviews with suspects and accounts of how those under suspicion are feeling. The police make no progress whatsoever in solving the crime until at the very end of the novel when a witness remembers a minor detail that makes it obvious who's to blame. I gave it three stars because the writing was of a good enough quality that I didn't find myself skipping and skimming text. However, there's very little in the way of plot progression. It's just a mystery at the start and an answer at the end.
I love Shari La Pena`s books. The characters are complex yet relatable and you never know who did it until the very end. Compelling reading.
