In his fierce search for a new case, Detective Harry Bosch discovers a killer hiding behind suspicious DNA evidence -- and a political conspiracy that could destroy the Los Angeles Police Department.
DNA from a 1989 rape and murder matches a 29-year-old convicted rapist. Was he an eight-year-old killer or has something gone terribly wrong in the new Regional Crime Lab? The latter possibility could compromise all of the lab's DNA cases currently in court.
Then Bosch and his partner are called to a death scene fraught with internal politics. Councilman Irvin Irving's son jumped or was pushed from a window at the Chateau Marmont. Irving, Bosch's longtime nemesis, has demanded that Harry handle the investigation.
Relentlessly pursuing both cases, Bosch makes two chilling discoveries: a killer operating unknown in the city for as many as three decades, and a political conspiracy that goes back into the dark history of the police department.

Connelly weaves two distinct cases into a thrilling novel as only he can. The first involves new DNA from a 25 year old open unsolved murder case. The second is the possible suicide of a powerful Councilman's son. The first grows to enormous proportions while the second delves into political corruption.
What a story! Twists and turns, full throttle adrenaline to hitting the bottom. How does Michael Connelly continue to make me feel like I'm right there in the heart of all the action? Another lost day. I cannot put the book down until I finish . Now onto the next thriller
Wowβ¦Stupendous! Just when I think it canβt get any better Michael Connelly raises the bar yet again! I absolutely love his character Bosch and live through him in ways via these stories. I had wanted to serve in the military and become a police officer rising up to become a detective but at age 14 I ended up in a 6 month coma due to severe abuse and neglect that doctors expected me to die from. I surprised them all when I awoke 6 months later but now live with a severe traumatic brain injury (TBI) and though I did great things with my life for others via advocacy, physically I was never going to be able to pass the physicals for serving my country nor my community in the ways I had longed to. BUT Mr. Connelly brings Bosch to life so vividly and with such remarkable talent weaving these tales I lose myself in that it is a positive and blessed way for me to pass my time and takes my mind even momentarily off the immense pain I must live with and Iβm deeply grateful for that gift he shares with us all. This story was multi-layered and even towards the end Bosch unflinching content in his solid character never ceases to amaze as a conflict arises between him and a previous partner he had. Raises the intrigue level wondering where the story line is heading next. This book 15 is absolutely outstanding and here I now move onto book 16 as Iβm reading through the whole series. I highly recommend this book series to my fellow crime, mystery, intrigue book fans and invite you to join me in completing all of Michael Connellyβs Bosch series. Iβm happy to have this strong, resilient and determined character to lose my time with as my imagination goes on a journey through these intricate tales Connelly is so on top standing at creating. Bravo and cheers, Mr. Connelly! You are appreciated.
