Each of artist Jada Fitch's twelve stunning paintings represents the forest during one month of the year, featuring an array of animals, plants, insects, fungi, and other creatures common during those weeks. Opposite each painting is a list of all the species depicted, with corresponding numbers in the art, creating a search-and-find experience that will keep readers of all ages discovering more every time they look. Then turn the page to zoom in and see these creatures in even more gorgeous detail. This wondrous array of wildlife is brought further to life by writer and naturalist Kateri Kosek, who uncovers the many hidden stories and fun facts about the flora and fauna that make up the forest ecosystem, inviting the reader to look more closely at nature all around them.

This book is gorgeous from cover to cover. Every page is filled with incredible illustrations and details that pull you in. It’s a large, heavy book. It would be perfect for displaying on a coffee table, but my 4-year-old and I love looking at the pictures and reading about the plants and animals together. Maybe once she tires of it (if she ever does) we can display it on the coffee table.
This is a really well made book. The pictures are bright and entertaining. The verbiage is also very enlightening. I am learning more about the forest than I thought I would. I like reading about what goes on each month. Who knew! I originally got this for my grandkids but I think I am enjoying it more than they will! The best thing about this is the animals and plants are listed by their common names. If you really want to know their scientific name, you can look it up in the back of the book. This is an amazing book that I am proud to display on my coffee table. I would definitely recommend this.
This book is entirely too beautiful, too large, and full of way too much interesting information to be this cheap on Amazon. Every single month is beautifully illustrated with tons of details to pick out. It's absolutely a stunning work of art. Put together into a picture book size. If you're not a fan of large size books, this won't be for you. But if you just like pretty books with a ton of animal knowledge, this is absolutely a must-have. It would also make a great Christmas gift for the animal lover in your life. I could see kids as young as 8ish loving this book.
The Forest Revealed really is a gorgeous book, from the art on the inside panels to the insightful last section where you get to see the artist’s process, from birdwatching day by day to drafting the pieces that eventually appear in the book. My kid loves nature and drawing, so we both loved getting to look at this book, page by page.I’ll echo other reviewers that it’s focused on Northeastern flora and fauna, but we still knew a lot of the organisms pictured and the way it’s organized by seasons makes it really captivating. My one warning is that some of the pictures are a little intense. It doesn’t try to gloss over some of the less romantic aspects of nature. For instance, there's one painting of a mouse impaled on thorns, and the book explains how a particular bird uses the thorns to hold prey in place while it eats them. (Yikes.) While my older kid found this fact fascinating, it might be a bit much for a little one. That said, it's definitely 5 stars for this lovely and thoughtful book.
This coffee table book is really large, well-made, well-written, and offers excellent hand drawings. The details in the drawings are fantastic, and this makes an excellent coffee table book. It just makes you want to pick it up and read it or skim through the pages to look at the drawings and learn more about birds and other animals. I especially love the content toward the back of the book that offers suggestions.
