The first novel in the worldwide bestselling series by Suzanne Collins!
Winning means fame and fortune. Losing means certain death. The Hunger Games have begun. . . .
In the ruins of a place once known as North America lies the nation of Panem, a shining Capitol surrounded by twelve outlying districts. The Capitol is harsh and cruel and keeps the districts in line by forcing them all to send one boy and one girl between the ages of twelve and eighteen to participate in the annual Hunger Games, a fight to the death on live TV.
Sixteen-year-old Katniss Everdeen regards it as a death sentence when she steps forward to take her sister's place in the Games. But Katniss has been close to dead before-and survival, for her, is second nature. Without really meaning to, she becomes a contender. But if she is to win, she will have to start making choices that weigh survival against humanity and life against love.

I was not prepared to have such an unhinged main character that is Katniss Everdeen, because wow, she is truly a fighter.I found Peeta as a dork & I laughed more than I was expecting at the thoughts running through Kat's head.Fist time reading this book, and it's cool, I'll also be watching the movie for the first time in a day or so.
I wasnβt expecting The Hunger Games to grip me the way it did, but from the first chapter, I was all in. The writing is fast-paced without feeling rushed, and Collins does a great job building a bleak but believable world.Katniss isnβt your typical dystopian βchosen oneβ β sheβs grounded, cautious, and motivated by love for her family more than anything else. Watching her navigate both the brutal Hunger Games arena and the politics outside of it kept me turning pages way too late at night. What I really appreciated is how layered the story is. Yes, thereβs action and suspense, but underneath that is a sharp look at power, media, and survival. It made me think, but never in a way that felt forced.I also liked that the romance subplot didnβt take over the story β it added tension without being the focus.Overall, this book deserves the hype. Whether youβre into dystopian fiction or just want a story that keeps you fully hooked, this is it. Iβll definitely be reading the rest of the series.
canβt believe iβve read this for over ten years and have only now gotten my own copy. still a favorite of mine!
This book was very entertaining and enjoyable. It kept me on my toes the whole time canβt wait to get the second book.
Gripping from the first page! The Hunger Games throws you into a brutal, high-stakes world where survival means everything. Katniss Everdeen is fierce, clever, and unforgettable. Suzanne Collins blends action, emotion, and rebellion into a story you wonβt be able to put down. A modern classic!
