The Husbands delights in asking: how do we navigate life, love, and choice in a world of never-ending options? ("A bottomless champagne flute of a novel --The Washington Post)

When Lauren returns home to her flat in London late one night, she is greeted at the door by her husband, Michael. There's only one problem--she's not married. She's never seen this man before in her life. But according to her friends, her much-improved decor, and the photos on her phone, they've been together for years.

As Lauren tries to puzzle out how she could be married to someone she can't remember meeting, Michael goes to the attic to change a lightbulb and abruptly disappears. In his place, a new man emerges, and a new, slightly altered life re-forms around her. Realizing that her attic is creating an infinite supply of husbands, Lauren confronts the question: If swapping lives is as easy as changing a lightbulb, how do you know you've taken the right path? When do you stop trying to do better and start actually living?

the ending

I really enjoyed the trip this book was - kept me happily hooked. Until the end. Interested to read what others thought. Was 5 star until the end…

Husbands on Husbands on Husbands

I think the idea at the heart of this book is fantastic: what if you could rewrite your life and change to a parallel you at will? Unfortunately, I feel like the execution didn’t quite stick the landing. It felt simultaneously too short and too long to me β€”Β it should’ve either been shorter by a hundred pages or it should’ve been longer and I would’ve liked to see a deeper exploration of the themes of love and choice, and what it says about ourselves when we end up in worlds where we do things we didn’t think we were capable of.It’s a good beach read, but doesn’t delve deeply enough into the heart of the questions that it poses for me.

What an imagination!

I started the read laughing constantly, but then I connected with Lauren and began wondering how far she would be taken on her trips to the attic. Quite a distance it turns out! How Holly was able to come up with that many different husbands is amazing. All their backgrounds, querks, and personalities just blew me away. I spent the last third of the book trying to figure out how she was to get off the merry-go-round, but she accomplished it with great aplomb! I really enjoyed my trip to south London. I read the book with my sister's book club but was not able to participate in the discussion. I plan to call my sister and talk about it by phone... Looking forward to that πŸ˜€

Loved it! Funny as hell!

I LOL so many times! I can imagine having to do some of the things Lauren had to do to switch up her husbands! Haha!

Really?

Husbands here, husbands there, husbands, husbands everywhere. What started out as a novelty ended up becoming tedious to me. I kept reading, and bits became more cohesive, more (slightly more) believable. The resolution worked.
