"A love story for true believers. . . Perfection." --Annabel Monaghan
From the New York Times-bestselling author of Ghosted and The Love of My Life comes an unmissable emotional thriller: an up-all-night, page-turning love story with a very dark secret at its heart.
Carrie and Johan marry on a beach in Thailand only months into their whirlwind romance. Carrie, a British surgical intern, is too happy to care that she's being impulsive. But as the wedding festivities stretch into the night, a group of armed men suddenly swarm the beach, taking Johan away. She never sees him again.
Twelve years later, Carrie is living in the English countryside with her husband, Robin, and their six-year-old twins, running a holiday cottage rental business on the side. One night, she stumbles across an online post in which she discovers that Johan escaped from Thailand years ago, and has been living in Stockholm ever since. As the memories of their passionate relationship flood her, she becomes obsessed with discovering what happened on their wedding day all those years ago.
But just when Carrie thinks she knows what she must do, a shocking twist tears apart everything Carrie thought she knew. The One Day You Were My Husband asks readers what--and whom--they would give up to return to a first love and to the people they once were.

Well written book. Do not know why such an intelligent woman such as Carrie didn't follow her husbands imprisonment in Thailand instead of just (dropping it and returning to England. Also, no mention was ever made of if she got a divorce from Johan before marrying Robin??? Overall, I enjoyed the book.
This is a stellar book. Carrie is a surgeon in training when she meets Johan. For them it is love at first sight. There marriage on a beach in Thailand only lasted one day before Johan was arrested and thrown into jail. The book alternates between the story of Carrie and Jonah and present day Carrie. Present day Carrie is married to Robin and they have two children. Losing Johan and never finding out why, does a number on Carrie's psyche. She put aside her training and took a role of mother and wife, staying home to care for her family. When Carrie returns to medicine, she sees Johan at a conference. As her former and present life intersect, the twists are big and numerous.Thank you to NetGalley and Pam Dorman Books for the complementary ARC. I very much enjoyed being an early reader and reviewer of this book. My opinion is honest and not coerced in any way.
GO INTO THIS BOOK BLINDLY (besides checking out the blurb)This is not my usual 5 stars but I am going with full 5 for two reasons:-this book literally kept me up till I finished. At 40% I was itching to check out spoilers cause I just needed to know all the secrets. I didn’t and my anxiety was going high and I just could not go to sleep without knowing the full story-there were quite a lot of plot twists and the characters were so complexI didn’t know this book is listed as thriller. I would rather call it woman’s fiction/romance with suspense element because of the secrets that are obviously unraveled far into the story, but calling it a thriller (domestic or psychological) is a stretch, in my opinion. The writing is good and although I did read it in a day, it didn’t feel like bingeable kind of writing style. (I finished it in a day because the suspense was killing me, not because the writing style made it so quick to read or was any type of fast paced situation)The characters are complex. Especially the mom, I wanted to strangle her but at times she did do some good, so yeah, very complex, but truthfully all the characters are very complex and layered. The kids acting like kids. The current husband and ex husband, the sister - simply all characters were very well written. This is not exactly a fun read. It’s sad, frustrating, angsty. With family drama and tough life situations. The romance is there but it’s… complicated. At some % point I was set on writing in my review that the secret wasn’t and was underwhelming at the same time. But then I got to the end and it turned out it was much more complex and surprising for a reader. It is and it’s not a love triangle. I don’t like love triangles and I really didn’t know how am I to root for Carrie and Johan but I trusted the author and how the storyline will go and it worked. The first half was going rather slowly (or maybe just in a mid pace) but the second half is what makes it impossible to put it down. There is a bit of a dual timeline, mostly in the first half. This story is for sure one to stay with a reader for some time and the plot is definitely unforgettable.
I am loving her books. This is the third book in a row I have read from Rosie Walsh. I loved the characters and the twists and turns in this book. There always seems to be an unbelievable twist that is jaw dropping !
We meet Carrie and Joan in Thailand on the day of their wedding. They had just exchanged their vows when he was arrested in spirited away. Carrie wondered what had happened and what had he done.Years later, cari now married to Robin with twins found Joan on the Internet. After leaving him in Thailand, she had no contact with him and thought he had been serving a 25 years sentence.I must be honest the first quarter of this book left mewanting. I wasn’t sure I’d even want to finish reading. When I got to the last quarter of the book, it really picked up and I found it to be the most engaging. There were a couple of shocks I didn’t see coming.I enjoy Rosie Walsh’s books and suggest this book to anyone who enjoys a romance wrapped in a mystery. i
