Why did every character have the most complicated name possible? Why did they split into groups a thousand times when if they all stayed in one room that would have solved the problem? Why was the main character still thinking of flirting throughout a gruesome mass murder? The "motivation" for the killers was laughable, and the descriptions of their disguises just felt like a ripoff of Scream. Also, teens are not that obsessed with beer, they are not aging millennials spending their weekends looking for a good IPA.
My daughter is a huge Natasha Preston fan, and this book was no exception. She devoured it. She’s a rising 10th grader and has been reading her books since 8th grade.
Loved her book! It was a first time reading anything by her and she kept you on the edge of your seat and kept your mind working as the book went on and what the ending would be!
Teenage daughter loves N.Prestons books, she said this and the haunting are by far her favorites. Great Read!
Where to start? I'm genuinely disappointed. As someone who has read and loved many of Natasha Preston's books, l've come to appreciate her writing style. However, this book felt entirely out of sync with her usual work, as if it wasn't her writing at all.Several scenes irritated me deeply, making me question if the book was intended as some sort of parody. One example, early in the story, involves a girl sustaining a head injury during a storm. Her friends rush to help, but instead of addressing her head wound immediately, they're inexplicably more concerned about her wet clothes. To make matters worse, another character-aspiring to pursue a medical career-doesn't act in a way that reflects even basic first-aid knowledge. It was illogical and frustrating, highlighting a clear lack of necessary research.Additionally, the dialogue between the teens felt unnatural, as though written by an adult unfamiliar with how teenagers actually communicate. It pulled me out of the story and made the characters less relatable. I'm not typically one to nitpick, but these issues were hard to overlook. That said, I remain a fan of Natasha Preston and hope her future works align more with the quality l've come to expect.Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for the opportunity to read this before it’s release.

I have read a fair amount of Natasha Prestens books. Everytime I am left with more questions. The writing style is more young adult. The plot was really good.Would recommend to others to read.
It’s Spring Break and Bessie and her closet friends are headed to an old castle. The castle is owned by Allegra and Fergus’s family. The locals aren’t happy that the castle is being renovated into apartments.A plan is in place and the group of friends sneak out to party in the castle. Shortly after arriving at the castle a storm starts to roll in. Three additional people make it to the castle before they are all isolated. Will everyone make it through the weekend or will only a few be fortunate to survive? This was a rollercoaster of a story! Natasha Preston KNOWS how to keep you guessing and on the edge of your seat. I think I changed my guess of who the killer was at least 10 times!

I love all of her books they make you keep reading and dont want to put them dowmn!!!!
This was bought for my teenage daughter. She enjoyed it so much that she literally had it read in about 2 days.
Love the books by this author. Have every book.
My daughter loves this book. Murder mystery for teens and up.
Wish Preston would go back to her first couple of books like The Cellar or The Twin. Those were a true psychological thriller. Her last few involve lots and lots of killing and some are brutal just as in The Party.
Natasha Preston has a way of keeping readers on the edge of their seats throughout her books. However unfortunately the endings leave something missing. A lot of loose ends and things that just don't make sense. This is why I can't give this book 5 stars.
Excellent author and a good story line
Arrived a day earlier than expected. Love it
I got this book for my teen daughter and ended up reading it on vaca. I enjoyed the first half of the book. A little slow, yes, but I was entertained meeting the characters. The second half picked up speed which was much needed, but then it quickly turned into a messy run for the finish line. Ugh.
Slow beginning and I didn’t expect the ending… thrilling, edgy, middle to end of the book you don’t want to put it down.
Sooo good!! You will suspect EVERYONE! Natasha Preston never fails me! I could not put this one down! Kept going back and forth with my theories and I was surprised at the end!
I did not like this book. The chapters were too long. I read to chapter 20 and got tired how it just drag and drag. I skipped to the end. I predicted who was the killer and I was right. I can't believe how dumb the characters were. I gave it one star because the it took too long to reveal the killer. This will be my last book by Natasha Preston.
A fast pace thriller that had me second guessing everything! Bessie and her friends throw a party at a remote castle. One they aren’t supposed to be at. Ten of them go early to get it ready but when a storm comes through the ten of the, are stranded. They can still have a party with ten people right? Things go dark when one ends up dead and they find signs of sabotage. As more people begin to fall they’ll have to ask themselves are they alone? Or is one of them a killer? Things become stranger when Bessie begins to find clues to “The Incident” that happened months earlier. Can she survive the weekend? This one gives me vibes of Ten Little Indians, one of my favorite mysteries! Had me on the edge of my seat till the last page! In typical Natasha Preston fashion the end had me jaw dropping!
