From Liz Kerin, the author of Night's Edge and dark fiction's "new rising star" (The British Fantasy Society), comes a stunning, brand new edition of her debut.

Every tree in the sacred Forest of Laida houses a soul, and each of those souls will return to the mortal world for many future lives. But not all of them deserve to.

Seycia's father told her this story as a child-a story of the holiest place in the Underworld, the Forest of Laida, where all souls go to rest before embarking on a new life. But Seycia's father is dead now, and his killer has put a target on her back.

After she is chosen for her village's human sacrifice ritual, Seycia becomes the newest citizen of the Underworld, where she faces an eternity of suffering if she dares to step out of line. To survive her fate, she must join forces with Haben, the demon to whom she was sacrificed, who has a dark and sordid past inextricably linked to her own. Together, they journey to the forest where all souls grow in a quest to destroy the tree of the man who killed her . . . before he annihilates the rest of her family.

Unusual story

I love it when I get to read a story that is unusual . Too many books follow the old rut many authors before them have already wore into the ground. Also, not many errors in this book. I dislike trying to read a book that even an inexperienced proofreader could have made more enjoyable. Common in the ebooks I've read. This book is highly readable and enjoyable. I recommend it.

Enjoyable read

I really liked this book, it turned out to be darker than what I first thought but it hooked me right from the start and I found it hard to put it down.

Gripping Dystopian Fantasy

I went into The Phantom Forest not quite knowing what to expect, and was pleasantly surprised. The story moved quickly, the villains were despicable, and the heroes easy to root for. The protagonist’s journey through the Underworld was fascinating, and I found her emotional journey equally compelling. The β€œromance” aspect was not overdone, but there was enough there to whet the appetite. The world building was great! I really liked how this world was built on the ancient ruins of our own civilization. I look forward to a sequel!
