From #1 New York Times bestselling author Michael Connelly, the Lincoln Lawyer is back with a case against an AI company whose product may have been responsible for the murder of a young girl.
Following his "resurrection walk" and need for a new direction, Mickey Haller turns to public interest litigation, filing a civil lawsuit against an artificial intelligence company whose chatbot told a sixteen-year-old boy that it was okay for him to kill his ex-girlfriend for her disloyalty.
Representing the victim's family, Mickey's case explores the mostly unregulated and exploding AI business and the lack of training guardrails. Along the way he joins up with a journalist named Jack McEvoy, who wants to be a fly on the wall during the trial in order to write a book about it. But Mickey puts him to work going through the mountain of printed discovery materials in the case. McEvoy's digging ultimate delivers the key witness, a whistleblower who has been too afraid to speak up. The case is fraught with danger because billions are at stake.
It is said that machines became smarter than humans on the day in 1997 that IBM's Deep Blue defeated chess master Garry Kasparov with a gambit called "the knight's sacrifice." Haller will take a similar gambit in court to defeat the mega forces of the AI industry lined up against him and his clients.

This was very different ground for Hallerand also for Connelly readers! I gave the book 4 stars because I felt it was not only a captivating story but also an educational trip. Parents beware, this read is not fantasy, this is what our kids and grandkids are facing on a daily basis! Be ready for war, they are being attacked by the dark side of AI and hopefully they are strong enough to figure out what's happening before it's too late!!
This is a state of the art fiction on the risks of AI. I gave it a four instead of a five because I really don't care for mickey Ballet , there was already one "got it wrong" legally and some annoying smugness but its a great story well told Loved the courtroom scenes. I read nearly everything Michael ConNelly publishes but I read this one more quickly
Timely, well researched, well written, entertaining and informative. A good message about an evolving risk. I enjoyed the book thoroughly and it gives me hope that we develop more protocol with AI. Thank you, Michael Connelly!
Mickey Haller is not a defense attorney in this latest Lincoln Lawyer novel. Instead he is a plaintiff attorney in a lawsuit against a tech company. A teenager has murdered his former girlfriend and according to the lawsuit was induced to commit this murder by a female AI companion created by the tech company. This is a very timely issue in the real world and the book is brilliant. The legal drama that Mickey Haller is famous for is still there, stronger than ever. I loved this book and couldn't wait to turn each page to see how Haller came after the company and how this company fought back.
Michael Connelly has hit another home run with this latest Lincoln Lawyer novel. And what makes this even more amazing is that he is NOT a lawyer but rather a keen observer of how courtrooms, prosecutors and defense attorneys operate. I always learn something new and fascinating when reading his books, whether it’s about police and law enforcement (Bosch) or the legal profession (Haller). A fast read and while I would suggest you read his LL booksin order first to give you some background information, it’s really not necessary with this book. I HIGHLY recommend.
