The Rose Bargain

The book looks nice a crisp. my only complaint is that on the side the pages have dirt smudges making the book look like it might be used. But everything else looks great so really just that one minor detail. I can’t wait to read it!

I really loved this book. It was really interesting and fun to read. I would describe it as a romantasy. I really recommend it for my reader girlies out there.

Love the concept of the story ended weird

This was rather interesting. It has a 'The Selection' vibe but with Fae. The story was interesting and a quick easy read. I saw a twist coming but i was a smidge surprised at the magnitude. It seemed rushed and not well thought out which was disappointing. Up until that point, I was in it, enjoying the quick one-day read.

You’re going to feel like your mind was turned inside out in the BEST WAY!! Read this book asap, it’s a bit of a slow start but I was hooked by chapter 5!! Worth the wait:)

While it is set in real 1800s London, the War of the Roses did not end with a human king. Instead, Queen Mor stepped out of the fairy world and ended the war with a bargain that benefited only herself. The story follows the typical plot of a young woman entering a competition to marry a prince, but with a few twists and turns. I enjoyed the relationship between the girls in the competition; there was some fade-to-black romance (this is a young adult book), and there was also a mystery. Ivy's sister, Lydia, was missing, then suddenly returned, and no one knew where she had gone or why. Lydia also claimed not to remember her bargain. The book ends on a cliffhanger, with multiple characters' lives hanging in the balance after a complete upheaval of London's power structure. This one is 5 stars!

This is an interesting YA novel centered around five girls all vying for the prince's hand, and maybe something more.The premise was very intriguing that of an alternate history where a fae queen disrupts and wins the War of the Roses. I wish we had more insight into that period and the early days of bargains. It is hard to believe that 400 years would pass before the events of the novel. The lack of clear information on the fae explains some of the naivety of the main protagonist, but not all. The girls all feel far too young and short-sighted, though their friendship was the best part of the novel.It was difficult to tell them apart at times, since the story drags in the middle. They each have a chapter told from their point of view, which made it easier to reference and remind myself of their backstories. They are a varied group that mostly made sense for their motivations to joining the competition. It does take far too long for them to realize a critical loophole though (no spoilers).Besides the main cast's naivety, the grammatical errors really made this a difficult read from the beginning. Some spelling errors can be ignored, but the logical inconsistencies and disruptions to flow were incredibly hard to follow (i.e. talking then suddenly waking up presumably the next day). The story would have been much stronger with editing for logical consistency.For a YA book, a scene or two was unexpectedly not fade-to-black. The descriptions, while omitting curse words, were fairly explicit for what was going on. I was expecting more vagueness and less physical intimacy given the young protagonist (at least young mindset) and general YA feel of the novel. It was not egregious, just something to keep in mind if you are concerned about that kind of material.I did enjoy the ending, though some may find it unsatisfactory. I hope the author leaves it as a standalone and continues with other alternative, fantastical retellings of history (with better editing next time).

This book had a lot of potential, and I really like the premise of a Bachelor-like competition for prince’s hand, yet it fell short in several areas. First of all, there were simple editing mistakes that should have been caught. One character was described as sitting at the piano, but the next sentence had the same character walking into another room and a different character was sitting at the piano. Later in the book Ivy was barefoot, then walking through a dirt tunnel with shoes, and then she was barefoot with dirty feet. Also the writing was a little simplistic and seemed more geared towards a YA audience, yet the content may not be appropriate for a younger YA audience. While there wasn’t an explicit sex scene, there was still a sex scene that was pretty descriptive for anyone who knows what sex is. However my biggest complaint is that this was clearly set up for a sequel. I just feel scammed when I finish a book and it doesn’t have a conclusion. This should be the end of a chapter, not the end of the book; way too many plot points remained unresolved. Overall I’m not sure I’m going to read the sequel.

Wow! This was such a great book! I don't even know how to describe how excellent a read this was. It's fast-paced from the start, and it really never stops. Lots of great twists and turns, which leabe you unable to put it down, no matter the time of day or night! This one kept me up reading long past my bedtime, but i stopped caring as it got better and better. I just fell in love. It ends in a way that makes you wonder if there will be more to it, though it's essentially wrapped up. I just can't see it as fully complete. There are enough open endings that I'm not fully satisfied if this is to be the end! I must have more!!!

This was such a fun read! I didn't really connect with the romances but they were exciting nonetheless. The plot is a wild, silly, and dark ride. I really enjoyed this read.

Let it be known: I do not hand out five-star ratings like candy on Halloween. My gold-star trinity is made up of the elite — Fourth Wing, ACOTAR, Harry Potter. But Sasha Peyton Smith? You've officially crashed the VIP section.This series feels like someone took all my favorite elements from fantasy’s greatest hits, mixed them together with a dash of old English flair, and summoned a story that had me utterly spellbound.Enter Ivy: our perfectly imperfect heroine. She's sharp, brave, loyal to a fault, and delightfully self-deprecating — basically, the kind of character you want to be friends with and follow anywhere. And then there's Emmett, our dark and broody book boyfriend with a hidden heart of gold. Classic? Sure. Effective? Absolutely. The way I root for these two… it’s borderline embarrassing. #TeamIvyAndEmmettForeverAnd just when you think you’re comfortably obsessed — THE ENDING. Sheesh. That last 40%? I was completely feral. No water breaks. No snack breaks. Just me, the pages, and a growing sense of "I will not survive this cliffhanger."In conclusion: it’s that good. Read it. Suffer deliciously with the rest of us.

I was not warned that this book would change me.My jaw could not get picked up off the floor, I was nearly in tears not just because of the utter TRAGEDY throughout this entire book- but because I couldn’t blink for the entire last 25% of the book. My eyes were superglued open in shock.This started out good, eventually it got great, and it only got better and better and better and when I say I regretted having plans so much because I NEEDED to finish the last 40% of this book uninterrupted…. IT WAS WILD!!!There is so much tragedy in this story and I was so in love with it. Every character including the side/supporting characters got a tragic backstory which really rounded out the world and our cast. Emmett broke my heart with his backstory and the way he latches onto any crumb of love he can. We got a true tortured sad boi here.The plot was well written and intriguing. Admittedly I am not a Cruel Prince fan BUT the parts of the cruel prince series that I LOVED was here (and the parts I did not love in that series were not here) and I can see it definitely continuing in the best way in the sequel.I really don’t think I can emphasize enough though when we got to around the 3/4 point in the book when I felt planet earth tilt off its axis. I was gasping aloud, in denial, completely unhinged for the rest of the day.We need more hype around this book. It was bloody brilliant.There’s no way I could give it less than 5 stars for all the scheming, the swoony scenes, the snapshot backstories of the cast, literally anything Emmett says, and the way I was SCREAMING by the end of the book.Please believe me when I say this book truly gets progressively even better as you continue reading through it.

The Rose Bargain is an effervescent storybook fantasy that is a unique amalgamation of a BBC period piece drama and fae romantasy. What it lacks in detail and depth it makes up for in whimsy and ambience. It's a fun and twisted fairytale that will keep you entranced.The Rose Bargain takes place in an alternative world where Faerie Queen Moryen became the queen of England during the War of the Roses in the 1400s. It's now the 1800s and she's been ruling for over 400 years. When girls come of age and make their debut in society they make bargains with Queen Moryen where she takes for everything she gives. This year there will be bargains, and something momentous, her son will take a wife. The Queen holds a contest for her son Bram's hand in marriage. To restore her family name and honor, Ivy Benton steps forward as a competitor for the groom. While trying to win the affections of Bram Ivy finds herself falling for his brother, Emmett.This story did a lot of things well. The characters are interesting, you're given snippets of the other girls points of view and those are quite compelling. I loved the relationship between the girls competing and found myself more invested in each girl as time went on. Ivy Benton is a charming heroine you won't have a problem rooting for.That all being said, there are some niggling issues for me that got in the way of this work being a 5 star read. I found the world building lacking in depth and dimension, we are told that the queens rule is deplorable and she has to be toppled, but we're never really given any specific acts of her malfeasance that make her villain worthy. There was a lack of chemistry between Ivy and Emmett even though it's a principal part of the story. She's attracted to Emmett, but I never understood the reasons for the allure that she felt for him. Everything about the story is superficial, including the world itself. Moryen has been Queen for over 400 years, but we know nothing of the political system and societal rules that govern this world. If you are looking for comprehensive world building you won't find it here. There's also a twist at the end that I could see a mile away.Despite The Rose Bargains' imperfections, I will be coming back for the second part in this duology to see how the story ultimately transpires because I found that while the world itself felt a bit hurried, I have more than a cursory interest in what happens to Ivy and the other girls. If you're looking for fairytale vibes and preternatural beings, this book will certainly scratch that itch.

This was a cool concept of having Fey in the world. The fey queen stole the throne and held it for 400 years. She lets the people of London make a bargain with her and take something in return. Now her son wants to get married and this focuses on the 6 girls selected to win his hand. I thought the plot was good. I was intrigued and knew there had to be a twist at the end so I didn’t want to stop reading. I knew one character was too good to be true. Did t see the other twist. And now I’m excited for the next book.

But there are conditions, trials and tests that the women must go through. Because of her family’s social status, Ivy feels she has no choice but to sign up and try to win.When the human Prince Emmett starts to help her, and she starts to fall for him, it starts to make things a little more complicated. Add in the fact that her sister Lydia went missing for 3 weeks with no memory of where she went or what she was doing and is now is a state of depression, and that Ivy is basically battling 5 other girls who used to be her friends for Prince Bram’s hand in marriage and we have some serious competition.When Emmett decides to use Ivy to unseat Queen Mor from power and Ivy agrees to help, it becomes imperative for her to win. But can a poor girl on the outskirts of society win Bram’s favor, and his love?This was a beautiful story and the ending cliffhanger will leave you wanting more so badly. I cannot wait for book two!! There’s a chance for a HEA here with answers we’ve been waiting for and a slap to our faces like WHOA didn’t see that coming!Highly recommend and thanks to my hubby for getting it for me for Valentine’s Day.

Good book but unfortunately not appropriate for our high school! Our high school is in a state that does not allow us to have sex acts in books that are in our circulation. Your book says ages 14 to adult. Not in our high school. Our high school has a VERY low budget; only about $ .46 per student. Because of this I spend my own money on books for our school. I try to vet the books before buying and donating. The Rose Bargain was totally fine until near the end, one paragraph, really one sentence made it not appropriate for our school. So disappointing. Writers and Publishers alike are aware of these laws, so why will you not leave that content out! It's was literally one sentence. The story would have lost nothing without that sentence and we would have had a good read for our students!!! Putting this book in our library with that one sentence would cost us our jobs!

What an absolute delight of a well-told and well-paced story!Things I Loved:🌹The “Then” Beginning: How badass is Sasha to just remove hundreds of years of very bloody, very intriguing history?! Poof!! Gone!!😅 Move over Platagenets and Tudors! There’s a new Queen in England…and she’s immortal!👸🏻🧚🏻‍♀️🌹The Romance: the dislike-to-allies-to lovers, the yearning, the triangle, the fabulous use of the “Only One Bed” trope!☺️🌹The Sibling Bond: Explored with such depth; the love and the not so lovely emotional damage that only a sibling can wrought.😢🌹The Girls: What an interesting “Found Family”! I cannot wait to see how these relationships continue to develop in the sequel.🫠🌹The “Tests”: Hunger Games level of intensity!😰🌹The POV’s: All the girls and Emmett get their own chapters and I loved how they were expertly woven into the story!👌🏻🌹The Time Period: Such an interesting premise of The Cruel Prince meets The Bachelor meets Bridgerton!🏰All in all, just a gem of a twisty, intriguing, romantic story and I will be anxiously awaiting the sequel!🤗🎧The audiobook is expertly performed by Emily Mount and two other narrators and I highly recommend it as well!🎶Also, if you like playlists, you can find the author’s Spotify playlists for Ivy, Emmett, and Faith.
