"Riveting, heart-wrenching, and full of Old Hollywood glamour." --BuzzFeed

"This wildly addictive journey of a reclusive Hollywood starlet and her tumultuous Tinseltown journey comes with unexpected twists and the most satisfying of drama." --PopSugar

In this entrancing novel, a legendary film actress reflects on her relentless rise to the top and the risks she took, the loves she lost, and the long-held secrets the public could never imagine.

Aging and reclusive Hollywood movie icon Evelyn Hugo is finally ready to tell the truth about her glamorous and scandalous life. But when she chooses unknown magazine reporter Monique Grant for the job, no one is more astounded than Monique herself. Why her? Why now?

Monique is not exactly on top of the world. Her husband has left her, and her professional life is going nowhere. Regardless of why Evelyn has selected her to write her biography, Monique is determined to use this opportunity to jumpstart her career.

Summoned to Evelyn's luxurious apartment, Monique listens in fascination as the actress tells her story. From making her way to Los Angeles in the 1950s to her decision to leave show business in the '80s, and, of course, the seven husbands along the way, Evelyn unspools a tale of ruthless ambition, unexpected friendship, and a great forbidden love. Monique begins to feel a very real connection to the legendary star, but as Evelyn's story near its conclusion, it becomes clear that her life intersects with Monique's own in tragic and irreversible ways.

"Heartbreaking, yet beautiful" (Jamie Blynn, Us Weekly), The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo is "Tinseltown drama at its finest" (Redbook): a mesmerizing journey through the splendor of old Hollywood into the harsh realities of the present day as two women struggle with what it means--and what it costs--to face the truth.

A little predictable but well-executed

I’m a fan of the author, and have read several other books she has written. This one was just as engaging as the others, if a bit predictable in its final twist. I think I would have liked it more without the multiple hints dropped throughout (“you’ll hate me soon enough”)…but a good read for a long travel day.

Truly the best book I've read in a long time.

I read every day as my way to relax. Book after book after book. Most of them get forgotten once the last page is turned or as it is now, clicked. But this book will stick with me for a very long long time. The way the author portrays Evelyn makes you both love & hate her, but you truly understand her. The descriptions of love in this book were beautifully written & reminded me of how much I love my husband. I cried when Harry died & when Celia died too. Evelyn is an exceptionally well-drawn character. Monique is as well. The book has no flaws for me. I would recommend this for anyone who wants to read a book that will make you laugh, piss you off, & leave you completely satisfied in the end.

A fascinating life

I read this, and it reminds me of the old movie days. It gives you both joy and heartache. Evelyn was a very complicate and powerful, right into to 90's.

Captivating

Taylor Jenkins Reid captivates the reader on every page. This perfectly layered story ropes the reader in page after page with its complex characters and their long-held secrets and lies. The writing and story are perfect in every way. Touted as a beach read by some reviewers, this novel is so much more!
