When a hurricane uncovers new information in a cold case, the Sherlock Society investigates a decades-old heist in this second book in the action-packed and funny New York Times bestselling Sherlock Society middle grade series from Edgar Award-winning author James Ponti!
When a category three hurricane hits Miami Beach, it uncovers a body buried at the renowned Moroccan Hotel. The body is identified as the man who served as the hotel's bell captain sixty years ago...and the presumed culprit of the million-dollar jewel heist that took place just before his disappearance.
Since the bell captain clearly didn't take off with the goods as had been long believed, the Sherlock Society sets their sights on uncovering the real culprit of the theft. But when the thief may also be implicated in the bell captain's murder, even sixty years later, there are people who want the truth to stay buried.

Genre: Middle Grade MysteryBook 2 in a mystery series set in Florida where a group of kids solve cold cases with their grandfather. This one based on a robbery during a hurricane. It was entertaining and gave fun facts about hurricanes.Fun MG mystery series!
Even better than the first! Sherlock Society is back again, but their mystery hits closer to home as Grandpa knew the murder victim personally. With a little back and forth through time we get to know Grandpa when he was Alex’s age. The game is afoot and it is even more intense than before. I love the way the kids work together as well as with some new older generation characters to solve this over 60-year-old mystery. I think this is exactly the kind of mystery kids are looking for and we can’t wait for more!
** “(To lose the plot is) to become confused about what you should do, or how you should handle a situation. It can happen when people get overwhelmed.” **James Ponti continues his fun Sherlock Society series with “Hurricane Heist,” a story that travels over 60 years and two hurricanes.Siblings Alex and Zoe Sherlock, their friends Lina and Yadi, and Grandpa Pete are trying to find a new case after their failed attempt to find Al Capone’s missing money. But when a hurricane reveals a corpse hidden for 60 years, they find a new case that hits close to home for Grandpa, one that happened when he was just 12 years old.He has spent his life trying to prove that his friend, a bell captain at the Moroccan, did not steal jewels and art from the hotel. So when a body is revealed from its 60-year hiding place, the Sherlock Society gets involved. Using the 5 Ws — who, what, when, where and why — they try to determine the true culprit in the heist.Ponti once again does a great job of creating a fun and quirky cast of characters, building off the strengths and weaknesses of each other. He also fills the story with some great themes, like digging deep to find the truth behind matters; using one’s strengths can also build the strength of the group; having faith in one’s friends; and never giving up on each other.“Hurricane Heist” will appeal to fans of James Patterson’s “Treasure Hunters” and “Minerva Keen” series, Trenton Lee Stewart’s “Mysterious Benedict Society” series, and Tom Phillip’s “The Curious League of Detectives & Thieves” series.Five stars out of five. This is my honest, unbiased review.
