Fifty competitors, three trials, two stolen identities, and one princess desperate enough to risk it all.
Let the games begin.
Killing her betrothed and fleeing an arranged marriage was meant to free Briar, the Princess of the Sea, from a life trapped on land and chained to a throne. Powerful, ruthless, and wild, she once sailed the seas under her queen mother's rule as the feared captain of The Twelfth Night.
A decade later, she's a pickpocket and the king's favorite courtesan in a foreign, enemy court, working as an undercover spy while having a secret affair with the queen. As punishment for her murderous revenge, she's stuck on land-cursed, forgotten to history, and stripped of her ruthless power that once made her so formidable. One spray of the sea against her skin will kill her.
She's trapped, hiding in plain sight, until the King announces a competition in which the winner will be granted a single wish-a wish that could undo her curse. Determined, she conceals herself as a pirate, and magically seals herself to The Gales and its trials.
Only, the pirate identity she stole is being hunted by notorious bounty hunter and fellow trials competitor, Kressa-the same bounty hunter Briar is supposed to seduce and spy on as a courtesan.
The same woman whose kiss ignited Briar's dormant magic, breaking all the rules of her curse.
The adventure in Pirates of the Caribbean meets the romance of The Serpent of the Wings of Night inΒ This Splintered Sea, a heart-wrenching sapphic romance full of adventure, intrigue, and betrayal.

This is honestly one of the best books I have ever read. If you love magic, fantasy, pirates, women, Queens and Princesses, kraken, or just damn good storytelling, then this book is for you. I applaud you, Haley Munroe, for crafting such a stupendous novel. And I cannot wait for the next installment. Brava!
Great, fun read
The books is entertaining because of the amount of action. However, the charactersβs actions and motivations contradict minute to minute. The bigger action scenes lack descriptions and they are hard to visualize and follow.
Love love loved this book! Iβm so impressed that this is the authorβs debut novel. I loved the plot and characters. Character descriptions leave a bit to the imagination, but I didnβt mind. All of the main characters are women which was so refreshing! I donβt know that Iβve ever read a book that was so female centered, the most relevant male character in the book is the antagonist. Minimal smut, but it is there, and itβs pretty well written. But I think my favorite parts of the book were in the romantic things the love interests say to one another, they were always so poetic and beautifully written that I was practically swooning. It really made this feel like a fairytale romance for an adult sapphic audience (plus danger, lies, magic, and mythical creatures!)Honestly my only complaint is that I wish there was more of this book. I flew right through it and didnβt realize the second book is still on the cusp of release. I canβt wait for the next one, and for whatever else this author has in store!
Wow, if I could give this book more than 5 stars I would. This was truly a devastating read. It kept me up late into the night and woke me early in the morning. Kudos to Haley for her captivating writing. The betrayal, the love, the secrets were written so vividly I felt them as my own. I laughed, I cried, I thrummed with rage, and I was heartbroken. Thank you for the representation this book gives the LGBT community. I canβt wait for the next releaseβ¦ which I will also devour. To the ends of the earth :)
