One engagement. Two best friends. Three's a crowd.
On the eve of their college graduation, best friends Javier Báez and Marisol Campos swore never to date someone the other doesn't approve of. Now, almost a decade later, Javi has a problem. Mari, the woman he's secretly pined for since sophomore year, is engaged--and Javi didn't even get the chance to vet the Pedro Pascal knockoff she plans to marry.
A successful entertainment lawyer in Los Angeles, Mari is no longer seeking Javi's dating advice or waiting for him to declare his love. Instead, she's made a different pact--with herself. And to succeed, Mari's vowing to build a future with someone who wants to commit to her.
With his life and career finally on track, Javi's ready to confess his feelings. Except Mari's changed the script and moved on without him. Javi has just six weeks to convince Mari this marriage is a flop. If that means he needs to ruffle some feathers to help her avert disaster, well, he's up for the challenge. After all, isn't that what best friends are for?

4.5 ⭐️this was a perfect slow burn romance between two college friends that could just admit their feelings for each other and i ate it up!!i really loved this book! the friends to lovers, will they won’t vibes of this book!! i loved the diversity representation! the friendship between javi and mari was so sweet. this kind of reminded me of the movie when harry met sally, but make them latines with scheming father.i wanted to give javi a hug this entire book so badly. he was so sweet and really was struggling with feeling good enough and because of that never making his feeling for mari known so so many years. i love mari’s strong personality and watching her growth throughout this book.i highly recommend this! Mia Sosa’s writing is always so fun and sweet!!
I don't love dual timeline stories, but I have loved Mia Sosa's books, so I gave this a whirl. And this one worked better for me than others I've read.Javi and Mari have been in love with each other forever, obviously, but they won't admit that. Even if it has, occasionally, boiled over into the best sex of their lives. Whoops.Where the dual timeline really works is starting in the right place, and then bringing the back story into focus while developing the characters. The romance really starts in the first timeline, and the second is all about Mari getting married and Javi trying desperately to be supportive/get the fiance to show his colors. It's a very nice story with lots of friends and family in support and a truly great couple at its center trying to find their truth.I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
4 stars.Mia Sosa is one of my favorite authors, so I was looking forward to "When Javi Dumped Mari." Luckily, it did not disappoint! It is a slow-burning friends-to-lovers dual timeline romance featuring two interesting main characters. It tells the story of Javi and Mari, how they met, how they dated other people, how he fell for her, how she got engaged to another guy, and how he tried to figure out how to tell her his truth. I love the foundation of the story between Javi and Mari, how they met in college and became close friends. From there, the story builds over time and is full of humor and (eventually) heat. These are two characters that are imperfect and don't apologize for it. They are both relatable and engaging to read about. Javi does everything he can, all the time, for Mari. It is so painfully obvious that he just wants to see her smile and be happy, but he hopes that, one day, she will realize that she's truly happy *with him* by her side. Mari and Javi's banter with one another is top tier! My complaint is the pacing. I am all for a well executed, slow burning romance, but I think this book is a little too slow. I do think that the romantic connection between the two of them could have been hurried up a little bit more. It feels like it takes a looOoOong time for the ultimate romance to unfold, but the end few chapters feel rushed at the same time. Still, I found this book to be relatable and amusing and sweet. The pacing didn't detract for my overall enjoyment of the book. Mia Sosa remains undefeated in my book!!
Javi and Mari met in college and became best friends which seemed fine until Javi and Mari meet one day for dinner and Javi plans to tell Mari he's in love with her and Mari plans on introducing her fiancee. The story was pretty good but didn't really like the time changes.
Wow. What an incredible treat. From the very start, I couldn’t put it down. I was engulfed in this story. Mari and Javi felt real and believable. This is probably the first friends to lovers story that I’ve read where I truly needed them to be together. It was that believable. The characters were smart, emotionally intelligent, layered and so much fun. Hats off to Mia Sosa because you can tell so much thought went into their backstory. It was so rich! I loved these characters so much, I want to know what the rest of their lives looks like. It was so easy to cheer them on. This is my first Mia Sosa book but it won’t be my last. Lastly, hats off to the Latinx rep. It was done so damn well.
