"For years, rumors of the 'Marsh Girl' have haunted Barkley Cove, a quiet town on the North Carolina coast. She's barefoot and wild, unfit for polite society. So in late 1969, when handsome Chase Andrews is found dead, the locals immediately suspect Kya Clark. But Kya is not what they say. Abandoned at age ten, she has survived on her own in the marsh that she calls home. A born naturalist with just one day of school, she takes life lessons from the land, learning from the false signals of fireflies the real way of this world. But while she could have lived in solitude forever, the time comes when she yearns to be touched and loved"--

Amazing story

I loved every word. My heart aches for Kya. A gentle heart in a cold world. I would recommend this to anyone.

Must read!

Read before watching the movie. Now we've passed it between my mom, my sister and myself!

Real Literature and I Couldn’t Put It Down!

This book is more than just another page turner. It’s a deep analysis of human nature within nature. It has beautiful imagery and poetry, romantic love and elements of a survival story. It gives the reader a sense of how we are all connected to each other and to nature. It’s also unpredictable. Like life, it keeps us guessing until the end. I recommend it to everyone who loves to read stories about being human. Read this book!

Marsh Life

This was an excellent read and it amazes me how she survived during these times. Thor’s exhibits strength, courage and resilience. She had to raise herself and in the end she had to protect herself as well. She was smart in being a marsh girl and used her labels that people put on her wisely.
