Billy has long dreamt of owning not one, but two dogs. So when he's finally able to save up enough money for two pups to call his own--Old Dan and Little Ann--he's ecstatic. It's true that times are tough, but together they'll roam the hills of the Ozarks.
Soon Billy and his hounds become the finest hunting team in the valley. Stories of their great achievements spread throughout the region, and the combination of Old Dan's brawn, Little Ann's brains, and Billy's sheer will seems unbeatable. But tragedy awaits these determined hunters--now friends--and Billy learns that hope can grow out of despair.

Definitely a great classic, I was assigned to read this book in the sixth grade. And it is still a favorite. I actually bought this for my son he was mad to have to read a “ primitive” book 😂. But since I made him start it was nice to go by his room a few days later and see him laying in his bed reading instead of the phone or video game system. And now he is telling me the story as he reads, “they’re going to get that raccoon.” I wonder if he will cry when he get to the climatic point of the story…
If you love dogs and an adventurous story …. A MUST READ! I first read this book in 1972 and nothing has ever made it past “my favorite book.” I’ve had two other paper back editions but wanted a hardback to put in my “forever library.” Just hearing the title, “Where The Red Fern Grows” will ignite memories this book will indelibly leave.
I loved this book. It warmed my heart so much. Would recommend. Would also watch the movie after. They are both super good. 👌 👍 👏
"This book stayed with me long after I turned the last page. It’s beautifully written and emotionally rich. Billy’s love for his dogs is so pure, and their adventures are exciting and heartfelt. I laughed, I cried, and I felt every word. A must-read for dog lovers and anyone who appreciates a story with deep emotional impact. Truly unforgettable."
What a fun book to read that had me in tears but the strength and assurance we have in God and Jesus Christ helps us through the moments of tragedy and loss. This book was so fun to read which tells us that to have faith in God and don’t judge a books by its cover. I can see why it’s such a classic.
