I love Matteo Lane's comedy and this book did not disappoint. There's a lot of heart in it and it is really enjoyable to read as more than just a cookbook. The recipes are straightforward and approachable, with great backstories. It's a fun and informative cook book, and it would make a good gift - it's really nicely put together and looks pretty in your kitchen.I'm really happy with this purchase and can't wait to try as many of the recipes as possible. I've already learned so much about pasta it's crazy lol. If you like pasta, laughter, and Matteo Lane you won't regret this purchase.
Good cookbook have several all very good
Great readGreat recipesMade me laugh & im not even Italian!Buying another for my sister!
The book has excellent recipes but it's also very interesting reading! It's one of the best recipe books I've ever read. It should be in everyone's library.
Not a ton of recipes, but they cover all the Italian basics. And it reads just like Matteo was reading it to you out loud. I like the pictures, but who wouldn't! Nice addition to my cookbook collection.

I purchased this cookbook for my husband after it was featured on the Drew Barrymore show. I’ve never heard of Matteo but he was so hilarious that I had to get a copy. My husband loves to cook! Even makes our pasta from scratch. I’ve skimmed through the book and all I can say is that I’m excited about some of the recipes, especially while cooking them with my partner in crime. And not that I’m selfish or anything, but Italian food (particularly pasta) is one of my favorites..and I’m a Mexican gay man! Lawd help this waist!
Never have I been more excited to make dinner. I love cooking, but I admit my skill level could use some refinement. That is to say, I am limited in my knowledge and often feel overwhelmed by the techniques, necessary equipment, and excess noise that the world of culinary how-tos tends to exude. Generally, I am intimidated and frustrated by the nuances and bits of information I must fill in myself or figure out on the fly, risking the ruin of overpriced, splurge-worthy ingredients. This cookbook made me laugh, made me cry, and made dinner-making approachable, fun, and delightful -not to mention delicious, in a way that was truly as easy and enjoyable as the recipes suggested. It features bare-bones instructions, realistic ingredients, and suggestions stemming from the love of a family kitchen and generations of heritage and hilarity from the heart of the home. I cannot recommend this cookbook enough!
I received this book yesterday, and it's the first book in an age (I'm old enough to say that) that I cannot put down. Don't even stop to think, just impulse BUY THIS BOOK!!! Granted, I feel shame for how I'm now realizing I've desecrated Italian cooking all these years, but I'm more ashamed of my friends and family for complimenting it all this time. And all the while I'm laughing, because this book is also hilarious.Enough with this review - I'm heading to a proper store now for proper ingredients to make a proper dish that would hopefully make Matteo's nonna say that for once something bad didn't happen.

I cannot say how much I absolutely adore Matteo Lane. He is kind, funny, humble, and never fails to make me laugh. I had to pre-order this book right away, and, honestly, I wasn't sure how good it was going to be given that he isn't a chef. That being said, I was blown away! The stories of his Italian family, the funny little antidotes. I have made several of the recipes and they are all fantastic! I absolutely love the meat sauce that is enough to fill a cauldron, because I froze the extra and I don't want to buy pasta sauce again! Also the added fun of Nick's Kraft Mac N Cheese recipe is just *perfection*
Love the helpful cookbook and the witty humor of Matteo Lane
Good recipes for the most part. Very funny.
Funny. Well written. Excellent recipes. Very accessible. A great introduction to pasta!
Absolutely hilarious. The stories feel like you’re reading a book or listening to stand up rather than the endless stupid story you have to cool through on a blog page before you get to the recipe. It’s right balance of judgmental and “you do you” energy. Also the recipes are 🔥
I laughed. I cried. I felt hunger that I haven’t felt since being on Mounjaro. I read this book cover to cover as if it was a novel, on the edge of my seat to get to my next chapter, dying to know what happens next. As a fellow Italian-American, it left me wondering at times if it were written about my own family, particularly the bits about not measuring and Aunt Cindy NOT sharing the recipe. After reading the (cook)book, I immediately ran out to buy ingredients to try my hand at some of these recipes, getting too excited and overspending in the process (oh well, I can’t pretend like buying too much cheese is a new thing for me anyway). While I’m certain my Irish husband will still ask for meat and potatoes (not unlike Uncle Mike), I look forward to making these recipes and sharing the memories with my little Irish-Italian-American hybrids for years to come. Matteo, I was a fan of your comedy before, but this book has been highly entertaining and has given me a renewed sense of excitement for my Italian-American heritage. Thank you!(I will also encourage a Nick v. Matteo opera contest.)
I’ve seen one of his standup shows and while I find some of his bits not my cup of tea (but other parts very funny), so I wasn’t sure about this - the concept of a comedian writing a cookbook, though, intrigued me. I found myself giggling and laughing as I read through his “commentary” and find the recipes easy enough to make with clear instructions. And need I say that it includes some of my most favored dishes. Glad I bought this.
I generally don’t write reviews unless I’m really ticked off however, I decided to write a review of Matteo Lane’s wonderful cookbook "Your Pasta Sucks". First, I love pasta, and I love cheese. I’m always looking out for new or different recipes (the easier the better) that incorporate my love for both ingredients in my favorite of all cuisines, Italian! It started with Lidia Bastianich and her show on PBS and her "Lidia’s Italy" and "Lidia’s Family Table" books. I then moved to Nadia Caterina Munno’s, "The Pasta Queen" and Stanley Tucci’s, "The Tucci Cookbook". I began following Matteo Lane after coming across his comedy reels and then his Instagram account. When I found he was making a cookbook I decided I had to get it. The book does not disappoint. It is easy to read, filled with hilarious stories and Italian dishes that I feel I can and want to tackle, unlike my first attempt at Lidia’s spinach Lasagna. If you are looking for a great Italian cookbook, I highly recommend you checkout "Your Pasta Sucks". It is well worth the purchase.
I saw Matteo Lane eating pasta on the cover, while wearing a skimpy apron and had to buy it for my friend's birthday, but I'm keeping it!What an absolutely beautiful book. Matteo's recipe instructions are hilarious, yet understandable. The photography is amazing and it has an appealing format.I like the recipes because the ingredients he uses are what I would buy at the grocery store anyway. He explains why the type of pasta to use varies from dish to dish and why it is better to splurge on the good stuff - for more starch in the precious pasta water! And finally, the basics are written down clearly to make a perfect dish - from a simple red sauce to the heavenly Tiramisu.I think I may even find my pasta making attachment and try the ravioli press that I bought 10 years ago and never used.
I have been a fan of Matteo for a few years now. I have almost the same background as Matteo: Irish, Italian, and Mexican. I grow-up primarily with my mom's family, who were Irish. My dad, the big Italian he was, we had pasta six weeks, and I had pasta six weeks. I like many parts of his book; the recipes are simple and do not include hard-to-find ingredients. A small anecdote with each recipe is an excellent reference to why the recipe is included in the book. I have made his gram gram's salad dressing three times since I purchased the book. I have also made three additional pasta dishes from the book. I have to say, after making the dressing several times, it's best if you make it a day ahead,, the flavors become better. This is going to be a keeper.
I saw Matteo on The Drew Barrymore Show and immediately had to order the book. Brilliant! I don’t seem to be able to put it down. I have things to do today; but, keep opening and reading more of his book. Skimming the pages upon excitingly opening the box, I came across the mac & cheese section. Now, I look at Nick‘s version, and I know from first glance that it’s just Kraft macaroni and cheese box recipe, but I still had to read the entire recipe and I finished it just laughing. But then I read Matteo’s. and found myself in heaven. I cannot wait to cook all of these recipes. Thank you,Matteo.
I knew Matteo Lane from his comedy shows and have watched a lot of it on his youtube channel. I absolutely love his cooking videos and when he mentioned he wanted make a cookbook, I was like YES! I kept saying to my husband and friends that if he actually dropped a cookbook I would 100% buy it. Literally waiting 2 years later it finally came out!A lot of the recipes are already on his youtube channel if you want to watch him make it visually. There are also quite a few he hasn’t posted and I’m glad he included them just so there is new content. This cookbook is essentially a small auto biography of his life revolving around food but also his culture/family traditions tie in because food really brings life together. I love that the authenticity he brings from Italian culture as well.I would 100% buy this book if you love italian food, humor, and especially if you’re a Matteo Lane fan.
