A New York Times Bestseller and the #1 Most Challenged Book in America according to the American Library Association
In a series of personal essays, award-winning author and LGBTQIA+ activist George M. Johnson's All Boys Aren't Blue explores their childhood, adolescence, and college years in New Jersey and Virginia.
From the memories of getting his teeth kicked out by bullies at age five, to flea marketing with his loving grandmother, to his first sexual relationships, this young-adult memoir weaves together the trials and triumphs faced by Black queer boys.
Both a primer for teens eager to be allies as well as a reassuring testimony for young queer men of color,Β All Boys Aren't Blue covers topics such as gender identity, toxic masculinity, brotherhood, family, structural marginalization, consent, and Black joy. Johnson's emotionally frank style of writing will appeal directly to young adults. (Johnson used he/him pronouns at the time of publication.)

BELIEVE THE HYPE ABOUT THIS BOOK AND READ IT!!!!!!! It has so much heart and so much character, and I definitely plan on reading anything and everything this author puts out!
this book was so cute and so true. as a cis white woman, whose only had to navigate being bisexual and nothing else, reading this point of view truly teaches people like me to be accepting of all walks of life, no matter what they may or may not look or act like. awesome!
It was such a joy to read Matthew's story. It provides insight on how we need to be able to love and support those around us regardless to whether we are the same or different. People do not realize how important it is to be able to be one's authentic self. This book sheds light on that and the importance of family both by birth and by choice.
George makes the point several times how much young people need to have this information and as a fellow queer kid who was a bookstore, being able to have had this to read would have helped me immensely.
George M. Johnsonβs All Boys Arenβt Blue is a powerful and heartfelt memoir-manifesto that explores identity, queerness, and Blackness through raw and personal essays. Johnsonβs candid storytelling offers an intimate glimpse into experiences that are eye-opening for readers from different backgrounds. While I thoroughly enjoyed the book, I found myself reading it in spurts rather than all at once. The raw and emotional nature of Johnsonβs storytelling made it a lot to process at times, but this pacing allowed me to fully absorb and reflect on the depth of their experiences. It opened my eyes to a world so different from my own, fostering both understanding and empathy. This is an important, thought-provoking read that challenges societal norms and celebrates identity and love. A must-read for anyone seeking to broaden their perspective and connect with a deeply human story.
