A 2015 Stonewall Honor Book
A groundbreaking work of LGBT literature takes an honest look at the life, love, and struggles of transgender teens.
Author and photographer Susan Kuklin met and interviewed six transgender or gender-neutral young adults and used her considerable skills to represent them thoughtfully and respectfully before, during, and after their personal acknowledgment of gender preference. Portraits, family photographs, and candid images grace the pages, augmenting the emotional and physical journey each youth has taken. Each honest discussion and disclosure, whether joyful or heartbreaking, is completely different from the other because of family dynamics, living situations, gender, and the transition these teens make in recognition of their true selves.

Excellent book. I purchased it as a gift and I read it before gifting. I honestly think everyone, no matter who you are needs to read this. It gives such an eye opening truth of not only the humans highlighted in this book, but no doubt to so many others in regards to the journey of navigating and finding themselves. But it, read it, you will be a better person for it.
Written in 2010. So much has happened since then. Needs a follow up in current era
I loved this book! The individual stories werd very powerful!
Reading this book was genuinely like meeting the people featured in the book. The author captured their voices perfectly. I could feel each person's joy and pain as the recounted their individual journey. I have no doubt this book made me a better ally.
This was an interesting read. It's a book that Red, Wine and Blue is using as the May's book club's, Banned Books read. I thought that the kids who shared their stories were often as confused as I have been in understanding what being trans means and that undertaking the process requires much thought and planning. I admired their willingness to give us their insights as to what and when things were happening in their lives. Everyone should read this book before making judgments about whether or not kids are mature enough to make decisions on their own. They do struggle with what they are going through but they have an absolute right to be happy with their decisions.
