In a near-future northern settlement, the fates of a young woman, a professor, and a mysterious collective of researchers collide in this mesmerizing and transportive debut that “delivers its big ideas with suspense, endlessly surprising twists, and abundant heart” (Jessamine Chan, New York Times bestselling author).
In remote northern Canada, a team led by a visionary American architect is breaking ground on a building project called Camp Zero, intended to be the beginning of a new way of life. A clever and determined young woman code-named Rose is offered a chance to join the Blooms, a group hired to entertain the men in camp—but her real mission is to secretly monitor the mercurial architect in charge. In return, she’ll receive a home for her climate-displaced Korean immigrant mother and herself.
Rose quickly secures the trust of her target, only to discover that everyone has a hidden agenda, and nothing is as it seems. Through skillfully braided perspectives, including those of a young professor longing to escape his wealthy family and an all-woman military research unit struggling for survival at a climate station, the fate of Camp Zero’s inhabitants reaches a stunning crescendo.
Atmospheric, fiercely original, and utterly gripping, Camp Zero is an electrifying page-turner and a masterful exploration of who and what will survive in a warming world, and how falling in love and building community can be the most daring acts of all.

This is a look at a future where global warming has made much of the earth uninhabitable. Our heroine is sent north into Canada to spy on Meyer and architect dedicated to making a new community. As Rose spends time at Camp Zero, she realizes that many of the people working there are not who they seem. Some distance from Camp Zero is a military climate facility manned by an all women crew. When they are abandoned by their US superiors, they become scavengers. The Blooms like Rose who are servicing the camp bosses, have much in common with their military counterparts. This was an interesting book, but I think there was a lot of blame on men.
This book was recommended on the Today show, so I thought I would give it a try. I found it depressing and somewhat confusing. Not all books are meant to attract everyone and I was one of those who just didn’t care for it. It took me a long time to get through it. I tried something different and I’m glad I did, but It wasn’t for me. Find your niche and just keep reading.
In a world devastated by climate change, corporate greed rules as humans move north to colder regions. Men exploit each other and women and community is hard to find
It did take me a little while to get used to the back and forth in the book. But once I got it, it was even more fun to try and figure out the end game.
This novel takes place in the near future after climate change has destroyed much of the world as we know it. It is told from the views of three different characters. As it unfolds, the connections among the three become clearer, some of which are surprising. It involves survival, strong women, family relationships, and deception. Great read!
