From a bestselling author of epic fiction comes the deeply human story of one of the world's greatest mysteries: the building of Stonehenge.
A FLINT MINER WITH A GIFT
Seft, a talented flint miner, walks the Great Plain in the high summer heat, to witness the rituals that signal the start of a new year. He is there to trade his stone at the Midsummer Fair, and to find Neen, the girl he loves. Her family lives in prosperity and offer Seft an escape from his brutish father and brothers within their herder community.
A PRIESTESS WHO BELIEVES THE IMPOSSIBLEΒ
Joia, Neen's sister, is a priestess with a vision and an unmatched ability to lead. As a child, she watches the Midsummer ceremony, enthralled, and dreams of a miraculous new monument, raised from the biggest stones in the world. But trouble is brewing among the hills and woodlands of the Great Plain.
A MONUMENT THAT WILL DEFINE A CIVILIZATIONΒ
Joia's vision of a great stone circle, assembled by the divided tribes of the Plain, will inspire Seft and become their life's work. But as drought ravages the earth, mistrust grows between the herders, farmers and woodlanders--and an act of savage violence leads to open warfare . . .
Truly ambitious in scope,Β Circle of Days invites you to join master storyteller Ken Follett in exploring one of the greatest mysteries of our age: Stonehenge.

Circle of Days is another example of this author's wonderful storytelling. Like nearly all of Follett's novels, it's set in the past. This time about 2,500 BCE. Intriguing characters, both good and bad. Richly described settings. Love and hate. War and peace. I highly recommend this book, and it motivated me to go back and reread Follett's "Pillars of the Earth".
For fans of Pillars of the Earth, and for fans of women, especially, this latest historical tome about how Stonehenge may have come to be, from Mr Follett is both engaging and edifying. While he has never been reticent to feature strong women in his stories, it is timely and satisfying to have the main character a complicated and strong female, whose life Is interesting as well as regular! We are so often subjected to the notion that our ancient ancestors were simple or even stupid, the fact is that yes, their lives may have been simpler in many ways but they were in no way less subjected to the same challenges and triumphs that we are in the modern day, something the author is well aware of and deft at relaying. I found it a wonderful, thoughtful novel to get lost in, easy to read, and a perfect distraction.
What a writerβ¦simple words and stories but just fascinating. Similar toPillars of the Earth - the book has everything. Love, deceit, revenge, sex, politics, war, family, famine, spirituality, long but well written. Weird character names yet you donβt forget any of them and grow to just love the main onesβ¦or dislike if they are the villains. Enjoyed this book - highly recommend and it had a happy ending which is usually a must for me. CH
I have visited Stonehenge and examined the display about where the stones came from and the Scagga- like theory that moving such stones with neolithic tools was βimpossibleβ. Follett and his research seem to show that the feat was indeed possible and that it could be accomplished by determined workers over a relatively short time period. This book is captivating storytelling at its best.
Circle of Days was a most enjoyable tale of the predecessor of Stonehenge, its design, the its maintenance, its use and value...overall, the vital role it played in the lives of the communities around it. Though long, the novel moved briskly and offered fascinating ideas of how people lived in this very distant age. The only complaint I have about the novel is the near perfect English (with often surprising vocabulary) that the characters spoke. Aside from the language level, as I said, I found Circle of Days (the meaning of the title becomes clear) very enjoyable.
