In a novel-in-verse that brims with grief and love, National Book Award-winning and New York Times bestselling author Elizabeth Acevedo writes about the devastation of loss, the difficulty of forgiveness, and the bittersweet bonds that shape our lives.

Camino Rios lives for the summers when her father visits her in the Dominican Republic. But this time, on the day when his plane is supposed to land, Camino arrives at the airport to see crowds of crying people...

In New York City, Yahaira Rios is called to the principal's office, where her mother is waiting to tell her that her father, her hero, has died in a plane crash.

Separated by distance--and Papi's secrets--the two girls are forced to face a new reality in which their father is dead and their lives are forever altered.

And then, when it seems like they've lost everything of their father, they learn of each other.

Great for summer reading or anytime! Clap When You Land is a Today show pick for "25 children's books your kids and teens won't be able to put down this summer!"

Good book

I love this book, extremely entertaining! Very interesting and beautifully written, also recommend β€œThe Poet X” by the same author.

So real

It could be the story of many Dominican Men that emigrated to the United States in the 70 and 80th decades.

Used book and not new like selected

This was definitely a used book! Not new like it said it was. You can see all the stickers that were removed from the corners, edges and back of the book. There’s dates that were covered by sharpies. The front cover is bent This book was sticky over all. Sad that I’m writing this review when it’s not regarding the reading of it.

Speechless

β€œRaw, earth-shattering, gut-wrenching, and heartbreaking,” this novel delves into the complexities of grief and the revelation of life-altering family secrets. It intertwines two stories, ones marked by the loss of a loved one and the unraveling of secrets that were not their burden to bear, while also grappling with the mounting stress of life itself. Amidst these profound losses, the characters find solace in each other, drawn together by shared grief and the unburdened weight of secrets. Healing manifests in various forms and often emerges when individuals relinquish their knowledge and place their trust in the guidance of their loved ones. The author’s prose is beautifully crafted, realistic, and emotionally resonant, transporting readers into the heart of the story. Each narrative resonates deeply, evoking a profound emotional response. The author’s exploration of the past that shapes the present and its impact on the future creates a compelling narrative that lingers in the mind long after the last page is turned. This is a truly remarkable read.
