THE INSTANT #1 INTERNATIONAL BESTSELLER (SUNDAY TIMES, UK) - The highly anticipated return of "irresistible" (New York Times) private eye Jackson Brodie in the newest installment of the bestselling series hailed as "unputdownable" by Time

"How delicious to have Jackson Brodie back, this time in a story that starts off in Agatha Christie's world but soon becomes a landscape that could only have been crafted from the pen of the incomparable Kate Atkinson."-Ian Rankin, author of theΒ Inspector Rebus Novels

Welcome to Rook Hall. The stage is set. The players are ready. By night's end, a murderer will be revealed.

In his sleepy Yorkshire town, ex-detective Jackson Brodie is staving off boredom and malaise. His only case is the seemingly tedious matter of a stolen painting. But Jackson soon uncovers a string of unsolved art thefts that lead him down a dizzying spiral of disguise and deceit to Burton Makepeace, a formerly magnificent estate now partially converted into a hotel hosting Murder Mystery weekends.

As paying guests, impecunious aristocrats and old friends collide, we are treated to Atkinson's most charming and fiendishly clever mystery yet, one that pays homage to the masters of the genre--from Agatha Christie and Dorothy Sayers to the modern era ofΒ Knives Out and Only Murders in the Building.

Always Great to See Jackson Brodie Again

Brodie (through his creator Kate Atkinson) has never lost his caustic sense of humor. She can tell a tale that's part mystery, part comical and fully engaging. With an exception or two, I've read all her books. They're weird, in the best sense of the word. Hope another one comes soon.

brainy fun

What a satisfying book! Fascinating characters, a blast at the upper classes, realistic commentary on aging, on the art world, on relish and. Humane values. And at the same time, ecsqusite plot twists and perfect timing. Delightful, hilarious. Gorgeous we toting. A hoot!

I read too much
Not as described.

There is a LOT going on in this book, and I sort of feel like it was a bit too much, for me at least. By the time, nearly at the end of the book, when we arrive at the murder mystery in the mansion, I had almost forgotten that was the part of the description of the book that made me the most interested in it in the first place. There are a lot of twists and turns in this book, and I can totally see why someone might enjoy that, but for me, I was really hoping that what turned out to be the last 50 pages of the book would have made up most of the book. I feel the descriptive copy is a bit misleading, and I would not have purchased this book if the description had been what I found the book to be like.

Good, but not great.

Without spoiling anything for anyone, the ending was (for me), very off-putting. It was good, but not as good as the last book of hers I read.

Atkinson and Brodie: A Winning Combination

Atkinson's literary fiction is innovative, polished and highly praised. But it is her Jackson Brodie books with their recurring characters, including Jackson himself, who she and develops through her series that make many of us fans for life.
