Nearly seventy years after its original publication, Ray Bradbury’s internationally acclaimed novel Fahrenheit 451 stands as a classic of world literature set in a bleak, dystopian future. Today its message has grown more relevant than ever before.
Guy Montag is a fireman. His job is to destroy the most illegal of commodities, the printed book, along with the houses in which they are hidden. Montag never questions the destruction and ruin his actions produce, returning each day to his bland life and wife, Mildred, who spends all day with her television “family.” But when he meets an eccentric young neighbor, Clarisse, who introduces him to a past where people didn’t live in fear and to a present where one sees the world through the ideas in books instead of the mindless chatter of television, Montag begins to question everything he has ever known.

I believe all should read this book, because it may well an example of what we can face in a not so far future. It is easy to read and I could not put it down until I finished it.
I didn’t get to read F451 when I was in college in the mid 1950's. If it was a cautionary tale then, surely it is truth now,. My rationale for reading it now is because it is a BANNED BOOK.What I found so interesting about the book was:Even though it was written back in the 1950's its subject matter is very pertinent to TODAY's political situation. Clearly the banning of information that is not part of the 'Agenda" is at the heart of what F451 addresses. The Fireman in F451 could easily be an anonymous "Whistleblower" in today's Trump administration in DoD, DHHS, NOAA, etc. that have been awakened to evils of the "MAGA Agenda"The Fireman finds a group of likeminded persons (dispelled professors,) who are "holding" on to the information in the books to be readied to support the surviving generations that will need that information . Who is doing that now for us?? I hope that there are groups out there doing exactly that. We need to support the dissenters and the truth tellers. The foreshadowing of "cancel culture", opiate drug use, 24/7/365 "numbing" happy entertainment, suppression of news and independent thought, mis-appropriation of movements for equality and justice; scapegoating and gaslighting; I could go on and on!!I could not find anything in the book for it to be banned ( no sex, profanity ) , outside of the profane request for personal moral strength, stamina and promotion of independent thought in a society to resist autocracy and "groupthink". This is a book for all time!!
Traditional history.
I recommend this book to anyone who can appreciate the classic books from authors like George Orwell,Aldous Huxley, and Jules Verne.
