A Stonewall Honor Book * A Time Magazine Best YA Book of All Time
From Stonewall and Lambda Award-winning author Kacen Callender comes a revelatory YA novel about a transgender teen grappling with identity and self-discovery while falling in love for the first time.
Felix Love has never been in love--and, yes, he's painfully aware of the irony. He desperately wants to know what it's like and why it seems so easy for everyone but him to find someone. What's worse is that, even though he is proud of his identity, Felix also secretly fears that he's one marginalization too many--Black, queer, and transgender--to ever get his own happily-ever-after.
When an anonymous student begins sending him transphobic messages--after publicly posting Felix's deadname alongside images of him before he transitioned--Felix comes up with a plan for revenge. What he didn't count on: his catfish scenario landing him in a quasi-love triangle....
But as he navigates his complicated feelings, Felix begins a journey of questioning and self-discovery that helps redefine his most important relationship: how he feels about himself.
Felix Ever After is an honest and layered story about identity, falling in love, and recognizing the love you deserve.
"Felix is attending an ultracompetitive arts summer program to have a better shot at a full scholarship to Brown when someone posts Felix's dead name beside photos of him, pre-transition, in the school's lobby. Felix's plot to get revenge throws him onto the path of love and self-discovery." (Publishers Weekly, "An Anti-Racist Children's and YA Reading List")

Needed this book for an assignment, its good but had some damage on the top. idrc about the damage but maybe someone will
A profound exploration of self-discovery, self-awareness, and personal growth, this book delves into the complexities of gender identity, privilege in the context of race, sexuality, and gender expression. It addresses the experiences of individuals both within and outside the LGBTQ+ community, examining the impact of societal judgments, transphobia, and disrespect towards pronouns. This multifaceted and multicultural narrative offers valuable insights into the challenges of self-discovery, the weight of making life choices, and the struggles of family acceptance and acknowledgment.
I suggested this book for book club for Pride month. Iβm so glad we chose it. I thoroughly enjoyed the story and it was a great learning experience for me. No greater way to say love is love.Wonderfully narrated as well.
The story follows Felix, a trans teenager, through a summer of self-discovery, self-doubt, and ultimately self-empowerment. I really enjoyed how Callender wove in both mystery and romance without being too heavy on either one. There are so many moving moments that will resonate with anyone who has navigated a journey of queerness or coming out - I especially loved the story arc of the relationship between Felix and his dad. As a millennial queer, I think about how this is the kind of YA fiction I wanted to read when I was younger - books that treat queer young people of different backgrounds with dignity as they challenging the status quo. if I was a bigger fan of ya fiction, I would probably give this 5 stars (the prose style just isnβt my fav)!
4.5 stars rounded up!Felix is a Black, queer and transgender teen living in NYC and pursuing his dreams of attending Brown on an art scholarship. One day at school, he is victimized by a hateful, transphobic act. This book had me feeling all the emotions! I found myself smiling and laughing at times, while other parts had me crying, angry, and hurting for everything Felix was going through. I loved the small group of friends he found love and safety and support in. The discussion on gender fluidity and βlabelsβ was refreshing and so insightful for me. And the ROMANCE! It was so sweet, it made my heart want to burst with joy for Felix. Also can we take a moment for this cover?? Absolutely gorgeous and I love the inclusion and visibility of the top surgery scars. And when you learn how the cover ties into the storyβ¦ my heart was so full.Highly recommend this book, including the audiobook format which was phenomenal!
